A SPITFIRE from the Second World War was sold at auction in London for more than £1.7 million yesterday.
Steve Brooks, a British polar adventurer, bought the historic plane, which is airworthy again after a five-year restoration.

The two-seater Vickers Supermarine is the first ready-to-fly Spitfire to go under the hammer for 20 years.
