THE United States has sent warning letters to 15 prominent Kenyans it says are blocking reform in east Africa's biggest economy following last year's post-election violence, the US ambassador said yesterday.
Michael Ranneberger, the US envoy to Kenya, declined to name the 15. But they included government ministers, members of parliament and other senior officials on both sides of the coalition government.
The US may issue travel bans against some of the 15 in the coming weeks, he added.
More than 1,000 people were killed in December 2007 and early 2008 in fighting over presidential election results.
A power-sharing deal was signed in February 2008 to end the violence, which was also fuelled by frustration over poverty and corruption. It promised reforms that have not happened.
