Just saw the tapes, heard the recordings with the threats..All I can say, is the next time it will NOT be a USS Cole repeat. The US will fire first, and ask questions later. This was in international waters and all that had to be done with identification was done before this happened three or four different times..Iran has made a big mistake, in showing the rest of the world what they really are.

Only a person who hasn't lived through a nuclear explosion or hasn't had to deal first-hand with it's aftermath would make the neolithically stupid comment that we nuke anything. What are we fighting for if the first response is to kill as many people as we can guilty or otherwise? Seems you're on the wrong team buddy!

Transcript of Iran-US Navy clash By The Associated Press
Tue Jan 8, 6:25 PM ET

The U.S. Navy video tape and audio recording that the Pentagon released Tuesday of the confrontation between a three-ship Navy convoy and five small Iranian boats in the Persian Gulf is 4 minutes and 20 seconds long.

It begins with a crew member speaking into a ship-to-ship radio after the Iranian boats are spotted.

U.S. crew member: "This is coalition warship. I am engaged in transit passage in accordance with international law." After a pause he resumes: "This is coalition warship. I am engaged in transit passage in accordance with international law. I intend no harm. Over."

Mostly inaudible internal ship communications follow.

At one point a crew member is heard saying the Iranian boats are "approximately two miles from coalition warships."

The video recording was made separately from the recording of the radio communications; they were put together by the Navy.

As the video camera tracks movement of two or three of the Iranian boats at a distance, the U.S. crew member is heard repeating his radio message: "You are approaching coalition warship operating in international waters. Request you establish communications, identify yourself and state your intentions. Over."

What follows is internal, barely audible ship communications tracking the movement of the Iranian boats, at one point saying that one of the boats has an outboard engine, at another point saying the U.S. crews are "conducting level one on bridge to bridge, flashing lights."

Then a U.S. crew member's voice, apparently on an internal or ship-to-ship communication, says, "Five small unidentified small surface ..." and indicates that the craft are inbound.

The U.S. ship repeats its message to the boats by radio transmission: "You are approaching coalition warship operating in international waters. Request you estab

Accented voice in English: "You will explode after (indecipherable) minutes."

American voice, apparently speaking to fellow crew members: "He says, 'You will explode after a few minutes.'"

Let's have the truth,

If Iranian warships were within a hair's breadth of the American coast, as close to Iran as these American warships were, the Iranian ships would have been blown out of the water.

There are those making too much of this prank by some Iranians. It's not worth starting WWIII over, as much as Bush, Israel and Cheney would like to.

It seems to me that the Iranians are just looking for a fight. They seem to keep chipping away trying to provoke the Americans or the British into doing something like opening fire on them and then they will start whining about how they were all peaceful and the other side are big bullies who attacked the peace loving Iranian sailors, soldiers or whatever doing their duty. Fair enough they have a lot of sophisticated weaponary now that can reach out and touch ships etc but they should have a wee talk with themselves and remember that the yanks also have weaponary that can reach out and touch a lot further than anything they have.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Wally is being way to modest here. The reason he wears it is that Wally looks GOOD in a tinfoil hat.

No, it's not worth starting WWIII over. What's puzzling is why you have linked the two in your post. The term "world war three" is nearly always used as a metaphor referencing the previous two world wars as models for the third.

The scenario you describe is not plausible. Your inference is that a military conflict between the US and Iran will produce a conflagration similar to the previous two, protracted, indiscriminately violent, and of uncertain outcome at the onset. Should conflict arise between the US and Iran, it will be short, decisive, and one-sided in the extreme. Consequently the WW III deal, while evocative, does not pertain.

The Iranians are great people. They are cultured, educated and industrious. The are our brothers and sisters and they have suffered a mammoth calamity. They have lost their country to a pack or rabid dogs who rule by fear and terror. God help them and us find a way to return the Iranian government back to the Iranian people.

This is a really stupid act on the part of the Iranians and I find it inconsistent with their leaders intentions of late. These guys are cowboys and should be removed from the area under guard. There is certainly no reason for the US to do other than what they did and at no time was there any real threat to the ships only to peace with Iran.
The Tapes supplied by Lynne clearly show the US doing what they should and after the airline incident they know that we will fire if threatened. This might be in the same area as a suicide bomber. These guys want their 72 virgins.
I think Iran could issue an apology.

Funny! Somehow US military managed hastily to broadcast that tape. What happened to the torture tapes(!)that were somehow mysteriously disappeared by Pentagon few years ago?! Don't see any patriotic zionists questioning that?!

Surprise, surprise: Iran accuses the US of faking the "confrontation" in the straits of Hormuz.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/10/world/middleeast/10iran.html?hp

....Given the US has faked most reasons for going to war in the past 50 years, Iran's claim has credibility.
