Troops abandon Afghan outpost

US TROOPS have abandoned a remote outpost in eastern Afghanistan, where militants killed nine of their comrades earlier this week.
Omar Sami, a spokesman for the Nuristan provincial governor, said US and Afghan soldiers quit the base on Tuesday afternoon. The insurgents drove out the handful of police left behind to defend offices.

I thought the war had been won? Or is that why you are abandoning the outposts, and leaving a few defenceless policemen behind to guard the offices? Those very same policemen more than likely were driven out in the back of trucks, encased in body bags. Your military are showing a lot of cowardice here, and it's enough for you to hang your heads in shame for that. I thought there was no quit in your troops, I guess the two of you have been lying all along.
It's high time to withdraw from both Afghanistan and Iraq, before you get the daylights kicked out of you some more.

#1 postmark, I am wondering if you are Chinese or not,but certainly anti-American.
First of all, when the odds are overwhelming, there is such a thing as withdrawal, especially when back-up forces are non existant. Only fools are martyrs.
Secondly, US troops, as with most allied forces, are held to morality, whether it is by the Geneva Convention, or other accords.
Other armies do not abide by these rules, and the outcome is very different.
Afghanistan, geographically, is difficult terrain to fight any war. Ideal for hit and run situations. Given flatter terrain, the Russians would have toasted Afghanistan, just as they drove the Nazis from their country in WWII. Tanks, armor and overwhelming troop numbers.

#1 Just in case you think I am pro-Russian, this is not the case. I am merely giving an example of how ridiculous your rhetoric is. The armies that do not abide by decency, would leave you strung up by piano wire for your statement.

First of all, I'm not Chinese, but I am working on attaining Chinese citizenship, whether or not that is possible, I haven't found out yet. I just got married to a Chinese woman on the 4th of July, hopefully that will also help me in becoming a Chinese citizen.

Second, I am not anti-American, but I am anti-Bush and your Administration, and the likes of Lynne and 57Nomad who are so arrogant to think that you've won the war in Iraq.

Third, Your troops should have morals, but have proven not to have any, and your Administration condones and approves torture, and that goes as far as torturing suspects of all people, suspects are just that, they haven't been convicted of anything.

Fourth, Don't go blaming the terrain, it's the same terrain the Afghanis are fighting in, and the Russians lost, as will you.

Fifth, you are dealing with people that don't think like you do, a life means nothing to them, not yours, not theirs. They will gladly kill themselves to kill you, tough to reason with people of that mentality.

Last, Why is it that you withdrew but left those policemen to defend offices that were no use to anybody? That's why I say it is a cowardly act.

Evidently you do not know of the cooperation with the US and the Afghanis to get the Russians out of Afghanistan. Before the Taliban became the Taliban.
We supplied them with the equipment and the guns and the stingers, and whatever else they needed to get the Russian helicopters, and jets out of the skies of their country. It was a covert operation. Because of that, it led to the downfall of the Soviet Union.

Our mistake was, once the Afghans won, we abandoned them, by not rebuilding the schools and the infrastructure.

I think we have learned from that lesson. If we leave Iraq too early, without doing those things, we risk the same thing again for the Iraqis.

We withdrew from that post, we called in jets and helicopters and killed many of the insurgents.. Do you only read half a story? That's what's wrong with you guys. Half truths.

I'm not arrogant, but you are stupid. Before you talk about torture, you know the country you want to be a citizen of? Check around there. Your an idiot!! An arrogant idiot.

In all armies, there are always the few who give the rest of the troops a bad name. The British are being investigated for sexual improprieties and abuse on a teenager now, and in the past have been accused of abuse.
Our troops in Abu Ghraib, however few there were, are paying for their mistakes.

I think panties on their heads are better than beheadings though. Don't you agree?

According to another media source, as of weds., more officers were deployed to that area and the insurgents retreated to the mountains where village elders negotiated a "truce".

No.1, I would say you were well on your way to attaining Chinese citizenship. For what it is worth, I do not care for President Bush, and that will soon be history. He is not whom this discussion is about. The US troops withdrawing is the subject.
Regardless of the actions of a few bad apples, that happens in war, we still abide by clean rules of engagement.
I was in the military long before you were born, and you haven't a clue about what real misery is, and obviously nothing about fighting a war. you deserve no further comment, and that is what it will be.
Enjoy China, but get out of America. Go to your new totalitarian country. Enjoy.
