Sarkozy seeks Irish compromise

FRENCH President Nicolas Sarkozy was today meeting Taoiseach Brian Cowen as they attempt to craft a way forward for Europe after Ireland rejected the Lisbon Treaty.
Mr Sarkozy, who holds the presidency of the European Council, is determined to ensure a compromise on the treaty ahead of the October EU summit.
