MORGAN Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe's opposition leader, is set to return home today to deal Robert Mugabe a "final knock-out" in a run-off presidential vote.


Mr Tsvangirai yesterday met Eduardo dos Santos, the Angolan president and head of the security committee of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), to demand the 14-state body ensure the run-off is free and fair.



The leader of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said the run-off should take place by 24 May, as required by law.



However, Bright Matonga, Zimbabwe's deputy information minister, said the run-off could be delayed for up to a year, allowing Mr Mugabe to continue in power. His claim was backed by George Chiweshe, head of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, who said his staff did not have enough time to organise another election by 24 May.



Meanwhile, 56 MDC activists were arrested in Shamva, north of Harare, opposition lawyer Alec Muchadehama said yesterday.

El Sabio. I agree that the whole mess seems to have ben given lower status, and should not be. The longer Mugabi is left to rule, the greater the casualties and damage. No more delays!!!!

Africa is a disaster because African's cannot govern and they cannot progress. The leaders are in their own eyes chiefs who believe that they are in some way the owners of the land and the people. If you think Mugabe is bad then think about Mbeki who cannot distinguish brutality and despotic behaviour from honest political office. Mbeki like most other African leaders do not want to close in on Mugabe because that would mean pandering to the West. They would rather support their brother in the African liberation movement than protect the millions he is killing. Then once they are finished supporting Mugabe and his dictatorship they hold their hands out for more foreign aid from the west.
Africa is the most pathetic continent on the planet for one reason only. What does Haiti, Brixton, Compton, Queens and Africa have in common?

It is time the truth was spoken about this topic.

Shocked I am! Shocked and horrified!

Really, did any sentient person believe that this election was going to take place within the constitutional time limit?

If they did, they probably also believe that, if it ever does happen, it's going to be 'free and fair'.
