Motlanthe to become new SA president

South Africa: The ruling ANC said today its deputy leader Kgalema Motlanthe is to be president.
The ANC's Jessie Duarte said: "He will be the president until the next election."

Australia: Officials are expected to grant a patent to a South Korean scientist for his disputed work on cloning human embryos.

Hwang Woo-suk's "breakthroughs" in cloning stem cells were deemed fraudulent in 2005 when a key paper was found to have fake data.
