THE Vatican has extended its list of mortal sins to include 21st-century problems and issues such as genetic experimentation, pollution, drug abuse and excessive wealth.
Published in the Vatican's official newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, the revised list was revealed at the end of a week-long refresher course for priests on the sacrament of confession. Traditionally, mortal sins are those which are a breach of the Ten Commandments – murder, adultery, theft and lying, to name a few.

But now to this list has been added genetic experimentation, tampering with the order of nature, pollution, social injustice, causing poverty, accumulating excessive wealth, and drug abuse.

The Vatican says accumulating excessive wealth is now a mortal sin??? Is that the same Vatican as in Vatican city?

And, still no mention of child abuse as a mortal sin.

The Vatican says accumulating excessive wealth is now a mortal sin.

Is this the same Vatican that owns a bank and an airline? Hypocrites.

Hey Dudes,

The Vatican, its Pope, and his Cardinals are a bunch of geriatric old men. With theologically fossilized brains.

But they are experts in fear tactics, and crowd control.

Our evil Pres Bush is an expert in fear tactics also.

Maybe he should join them in the Vatican, after we kick him out of the People's House the (WH)on Jan20, 2009.

More medieval nonsense from the Catholic Church.
#1 and #3 are spot on.

And to the No. 1 mortal sin of the Catholic Church, child abuse, you can add others. For instance, manslaughter - by condemning millions to death from HIV by failing to support use of condoms in developing countries. You could, also add destruction of indigineous religious belief systems, a kind of cultural genocide I suppose. What else, er, oh yeah, failure to speak out against let alone act against war crimes.

etc.

The Vatican is one of the richest business organisations in the world. This presumably means that the pope and his ilk (along with their Mafia business associates) are all committing ongoing mortal sins.

The points made by #1, #3 and #5 are also perfectly valid, and are presumably even more mortal sins committed by the catholic church.

I hear the Vatican is considering setting up "computerised confessional cubicles" to be installed by the million all over the globe where one can either "swipe" a bank card, the amount debited will depend on the severity of the sin, or drop your coins into a receptacle.

You'll be able to confess at any time of the day or night.

It should raise a few billion from the impoverished.

If I understand what they are saying advocating using condoms for anything or trying to impede the spread of HIV (or ANY disease).... that would be "tampering with the order of nature"

vaccines... out....

somehow I see the dark ages coming back...

I think catholics need to run this guy out.... in a hurry!!!!

It's irrelevant what the new mortal sins are, as they
can be scrubbed from the record with a swift visit to the confessional box.

Is "picking your nose" one of them?
Also, can all Neds be made them with "the rightous" (the non-neds) being allowed to exterminate them at will??

Is supporting fascist dictators not a sin? How about sheltering child abusing priests? Or helping the spread of Aids?

Again, with Biblical thought, the only moral imperitve to do good is to avoid hell or make it to heaven. Why not just use your own head to work out what is good and what isn't?

More predictable anti-Catholic rantings.

Give up, guys. The Catholic Church is not going anywhere.

We have spent two thousand years shovelling dirt into the graves of our enemies.

An organization run by "celibate" (choke, ha-bloody-choke, ha) men proclaiming that women should procreate (i.e. create more fodder for their fellow bully-boys to browbeat) is no better than the Islamogate equivalent.

Organized religion is the worst thing the world has ever had to sustain. Forcing young innocent minds to believe something they never had the brain to comprehend in the first place is brutal indoctrination of the highest order. The indoctrinators know it's a lie, but oh ... don't they just love the power.

It is written: "A rich man will not enter into heaven, for he has recieved his reward". Jesus said: "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into heaven."

This is Gods truth, let every man be a liar, but He can not lie. But It is written, "with God all things are possible."

What next? 0906 glossy photocards in the local pay phone offering the chance to "confess your sins" for £3.50 per minute?

Oh no, sorry I think they've done that one already.
