MSPs write to US and UK over bomber release

A HOLYROOD committee has agreed to write to the US and UK Governments as part of its inquiry into the release of the Lockerbie bomber.
The justice committee will request information from London and Washington about both governments' understanding of a prisoner-transfer agreement between Libya and the UK signed by Tony Blair. Justice secretary Kenny MacAskill rejected the transfer of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi, who has terminal cancer, and released him on compassionate grounds.

Committee convener Bill Aitken said: "Whether anything might come out of that remains to be seen but we should at least try."

I don't know what the inhabitants of the Scottish Parliament are inhaling, inbibing or injecting but are they SO deluded as to imagine that either the US OR UK Governments will pay the slightest attention to their request?

SHAME on Liberal, Labour and Conservative leaders for using the case as a 'political baseball bat'.

I have NO TIME for the SNP nor it's leader...BUT I DO have a profound respect for Kenny MacAskill as a decent, honest human being who with great courage and INTEGRITY took the decision to send a dying man home.

DO THEY REALLY THINK THEIR INQUIRIES ARE ANYTHING OTHER THAN A GIGANTIC WASTE OF PUBLIC FUNDS?

So a Holyrood committee are writing to the US and UK government to find out about an agreement already signed by Tony Blair that would have released el Megrahi because it was convenient for trade?

What information exactly does the Holyrood committee require about this shady deal when they could have sung how dodgy it was from the rooftops when the whole world watched them (the Labour Tory and Libdem efforts) talk down Scottish Justice and the Scottish Government when it came down to hoping to score a cheap political point rather than have sympathy or empathy for the Lockerbie relatives and those of us who wish all the papers hidden by the UK Government to be released?

Write a letter requesting David Miliband to release the evidence he hid under the Secrets Act, and they might do something useful.

#1 I dunno, would be interesting to hear MacAskill's criteria for his compassionate release. It's not automatic after all. I hope Tobin wouldn't get it. Or would our MAN OF INTEGRITY (uppercase blah blah) let him aff too?
