PARLIAMENTARY majority leader Saad al-Hariri was appointed prime minister-designate yesterday, pledging to seek a national unity government but warning his task would be difficult.
Hariri, 39, a pro-West billionaire, said the country's very fate was at stake during a particularly critical period for the Middle East.
