GREENLAND yesterday took a step towards independence from Denmark by celebrating the introduction of self-rule on its national day.
People on the island voted in November to expand a home rule agreement by taking control of police and courts and making Greenlandic the official language.

I think you might be a little confused.

Greenland is home to the Greenland Ice Sheet which if it melts as some expect will cause a lot of low lying regions and countries to disappear.

Greenland itself however is mostly mountainous and in no danger of being submerged.

The Greenlanders not only got "control of police and courts and making Greenlandic the official language", but they also got control of all oil and gas exploration and development around the island. The home rule government already had control of all income and company taxation.

But, of course, you wouldn't expct the Scotsman to mention that, would you?

Greenland could never be independent. They obviously hate the Danish. Nationalism is always bad. The NEED London...er Copenhagen.
