Demand for Sri Lankan inquiry

THE United States has asked Sri Lanka to open areas of the country where government forces are alleged to have shelled displaced Tamils this year up to foreign inspection.
Referring to a new State Department report on the gory finale of the 25-year secessionist rebellion, spokesman Ian Kelly said it illustrates "some real concerns" about Sri Lanka's actions as the war wound down. He said that under international law, Sri Lanka should investigate.
