Dalai Lama calls for prudence

THE Dalai Lama yesterday warned Tibetan leaders in exile to act prudently, after calls to push for independence if China refuses to grant autonomy soon.
At the end of a conference in India, 500 delegates agreed to maintain the Dalai Lama's strategy of measured compromise.

No I can't and I won't if indeed that is what he said privately, not just publicly. I don't trust the guy, he's been stirring the pot for a wee bit too long for my liking and I'll believe it when I actually see positve results, in the meantime my guard is up and so is our government's. The problem is that they still want to govern themselves and because they are a legal province of China I can't see that happening anytime soon, they will always have to answer to Beijing and they're not willing to do that. They should be thankful for Chinese rule, their lives and standard of living have vastly improved and the ones that I know personally have told me so. They don't want independence for they know that they would slide back 50 years to the days of old and they most definitely don't want that.

a country that circa 1945 had 5000+ bhudist temples...

and now has less than 150....

now THERE is some progress... from a purely Maoist point of view....

please explain to us all the difference between Tibet, and Bhutan... geographically they are virtually neighbors... recently Bhutan was rated one of the "happiest countries in the world"... aside from that little land grab that the chinese staged...

Get out of Tibet. The Chinese are fooling no one but themselves. They would be better off taking care of the 90% of their population in the countryside that is half starved.

Get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, the Americans are fooling no-one including yourselves.
It would be much better if the Americans looked after their own impoverished population that's going through life without proper health care and forced to live out on the streets, I've been there many times and have seen it many times.
You can't even find China on the map, if you could you'd see that Tibet is a province of China.

It's impossible to take the likes of you seriously. You go only by what you read and hear about China but you've never actually set foot in China.
It's not just about temples Mike but rather about the quality of life the Chinese have provided the Tibetans, and only a handful of them bitch about Chinese rule, by far the majority recognize and appreciate what China has given them.
And don't start on geography, you guys are the ones to talk. Look at Alaska, a perfect fit for Canada, look at Hawaii which you conveniently stole from the Hawaiians strictly due to it's location in the middle of the Pacific Ocean so that it is easier to keep an eye on the East and it's a great refueling point.
You have lost every argument with both Mashimaro and I about that yet every other month you come back and try again, well you'll keep losing the argument, time and time again.

what I said was BHUTAN... a pretty poor country between India and China... a country in an extremely similar geographical locale to Tibet

the only think I asked was why couldnt Tibet become another Bhutan?

correct me if I am wrong here but dear Mao came to power AFTER the current Dalai Lama... 1937 for the current Dalai Lama... Mao's communist revolution finally won in December 1949

Dalai Lama went into exile in 1950... that doesnt leave much time for lauding poetry... does it??

1913 - the china of today DID NOT EXIST... if you give credence to that era, how far back do you go?

and if you are going to deny Tibet... what do you feel about Mongolia? heck if you are going back to 1913... why not go back to 1911...

all I am asking for is answers...

I guess calling me ignorant IS an answer of sorts... isnt it?
