REBELS in eastern Congo exchanged machine-gun and mortar fire with the army all day yesterday outside a national park housing some of the world's last mountain gorillas. It was one of the fiercest clashes in the region this year.
The fighting, on the outskirts of Virunga National Park, came despite a ceasefire agreed in January.
