CHINA, angry at plans for Tibet's spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to visit Europe, has called off a summit with the European Union that may have forged a joint response to the global economic crisis.
The EU said it regretted Beijing's decision but pledged to keep promoting a strategic partnership "when the global economic and financial situation calls for very close co-operation between Europe and China".

France confirmed President Nicolas Sarkozy would meet the Dalai Lama in Poland on 6 December to mark the 25th anniversary of the award of the Nobel Prize to former Solidarity leader Lech Walesa, despite Beijing's displeasure.

"Nicolas Sarkozy ... is free to decide his agenda," a government spokesman, Luc Chatel, insisted.

China's foreign ministry earlier this month warned Mr Sarkozy, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, that the EU risked losing "hard-won" gains in ties with Beijing if he met the Dalai Lama.

Good, I hope China remains steadfast in its decision to not co-operate with those who support the evil Dalai Lama.
China can and will stand alone if it needs to do so, we have a population base and the resources to support ourselves if necessary.

Ok,Postit-you (sort of)know me, in that we've sparred before. Now I ask you to tell me why the Dalai Lama is so freakin' evil. What has he done? Boiled babies? I don't buy into religion as a rule, but as long as religion remains peaceful, I see no problem. Really, what's up?

#1 Posty wrote "China can and will stand alone if it needs to do so, we have a population base and the resources to support ourselves if necessary". Posty lad, I think you had better have a word with the good folks at

The Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research,
Chinese Academy of Sciences,
Beijing, P.O Box 9717, 100101, China.

Because they seem to think different, they say that "While China is a major source of finished commodities including steel and aluminum, it is lacking in natural resources. Water, oil, copper, lumber, coal, precious metals and iron ore are scarce in China.

Mate, we all need each other, get over the Dalai Lama thing, this is business.

The Dalai Lama wears two caps. One, he is the religious leader of Tibetan Buddhists. Two, he is the political leader of the same folk.
China will not allow "The Dalai Lama and Tibetan activists in their covert ethnic cleansing, disguised independence and re-introduction of serfdom and Theocracy"Simple enough for you JimA?
#2 You are obviously not well informed on the previous excesses inflicted on the Tibetan people by the very people many westerners wish to re-inflict on Tibetans! They did much worse than boil babies. The complete human skins displayed in the Beijing Ethnic Minorities Museum, complete with photographs etc, shows actions more bestial than any the west is so ready to believe the Chinese commit!Gullible doesn't come close.
China is consistent in it's policy on Tibet, live with it.

The British Government has finally admitted after decades that " We were wrong in calling for Tibetan Independence. It should have been autonomy within China" Now this is after two (now) un-necessary border wars,in 1962 and 1987!
By the by who was it who "INVADED" Tibet in 1903?

#5 Dragonhead, I couldn't give two monkeys about the Dalai Lama or any other fooking Lama for that matter. It's business mate, either conduct it or lose it. Look mate, China is going through a nice wee economic boom at the moment and good for China, but lets not forget that Japan, South Korea, Thialand all went through their economic booms as well but eventually the bubble has to burst and the Chinese economic bubble will burst, make no mistake on that. You folks in China supply the cheap finished goods others supply the raw materials to make those goods. As I said above, we need each other. The Chinese Government needs to stop throwing it's teddy bear in the corner over the Dalai Lama thing and conduct business, this just makes them look childish.

#7 Just Google it. Tibet atrocities prior to 1950 or similar. It won't take you long to find something.Have seen the Dalai Lama's poetry lauding MaoZeDong to the heavens. After his inauguration he travelled far and wide throughout China.Does that sound like the communists cracking down on genuine Buddhists?
There is a huge Buddhist Monastery here next to the Dalian Forest Zoo.If you want information on Dalian as an example. Google Dalian Expat.com click on the second item. Then browse to your heart's content. See how they enjoy the Tin Whistle Pub etc (Paul Casey the proprietor a good Irishman) or the paper my wife bought me to read on the train to Daqing 12Nov edition.Has a huge photo of Andy Murray of Scotland on the front and back page. It is called "21st Century" is in English and costs 2RMB.

Jim A,

#9 Dragonhead, who cares, this is business. Tell you what though mate, One thing I don't understand, if the Chinese Government thinks the Dalai Lama is of little or no consequence why do they throw a hissy fit everytime he travels somewhere, seems to me that this one fella, yep, just one man can upset your government just by packing his luggage. He must wet himself laughing.
11

Rob Bennett,

Point Piper Australia 27/11/2008 03:37:39
The Dalai Lama appears to live a very extravagant life traveling around the world living in luxury. If the Dalai Lama is such a great glorious figurehead representing God then why didn't he inform Bush that the war in Iraq was illegal. He chums around with the likes of Bush and Blair and says nothing about war crimes committed against civilians in Iraq. I believe the Dalai Lame is an impostor. Tibet is part of China and so is Taipei.

The man is evil to the core double dog, he committed unspeakable atrocities to the Tibetan population in general and then fled to India when sh!t hit the fan. The reason he left was because if the people he had persecuted for so long got a hold of him they too would have skinned him alive, like he did to so many of theirs. Tibet under Chinese rule is doing pretty damn good compared to what the Dalai Lama put them through and their standard of living has improved greatly, their life expectancy has nearly doubled and they all get an education and they have ready accessible health care.
My wife has family living and working in Tibet and they have nothing but bad to say about the Dalai Lama and they know, they work with people who lost family to the Dalai Lama and his followers.

3 Jim A,
Hey Jim, how's it going eh?
To tell you the truth Jim, we have plenty of resources or raw materials, we just like to stock-pile them for a rainy day. It is nice to be able to sell our goods worldwide and to be able to import raw materials but it isn't anything we need to do. Just google china's oil reserves or coal reserves or gas reserves, we have more than enough. We also make it difficult for people in Shanghai for instance to drive for we have put the price of a license plate basically out of reach for most of the population, which is good for both the environment and keeps oil consumption down. You guys would do well if you implemented the same policies. Shanghai has an excellent public transportation system and in a year and a half it will be second to none when all subway lines are completed. We really lack nothing in natural resources, especially the ones you mentioned and we've improved far enough technically to the point where we don't need the West any more.
15

Jim A,

27/11/2008 05:05:27
#14 Posty doing just fine here mate, how's you and your wife and the bump doing. What I was getting at mate was although China has those reserves you speak of (and they won't last forever) at the end of the day China does not have enough of it's own natural resources to sustain itself. as I said earlier China's Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences has said this. All I'm getiing at mate is we all need each other and it doesn't help when teddy's start getting thrown in the corner over one man. Business is business, religion and politics has no place in business.

You really dont have a manufacturing brain, do you?
Have the party stopped feeding you your daily drugs?

#8 Jim A
The bubble has already burst in some areas, factories closing, workers rioting due to no redundancy payments
The more industrialised china becomes the less workers it requires as machines do the work, with an ever expanding population ( well maybe not the baby girls if reports are to be believed )problems are already starting to arise.
Ah big strong dictorship party, throw the toys out the pram because of a rock groups album ( even that title was wrong, what democracy has china got )and a wee Tibetan man, clearly shows on the big world stage they cant hack it
Here wagonheid, have you decided what country you actually live in yet, after clearly stating in a UK article that "We " demand. If you were actually in china then you wouldnt even bother but it would appear you are really in the UK and pretend to be in china lol, kinna sad that

#15 Jim A,
Everything's fine with the wife and the'bump' thanks and life is treating me just fine thank you. I'm real busy at work but whenever I have a few minutes to spare I'll try to answer the questions for yourself and double dog, you're both fine gentlemen and deserve an answer.
The way I look at it Jim is that this 'one man' has tried for damn near fifty years to completely ruin China's reputation but the West isn't aware of what this 'one man' has done in his native Tibet before he hightailed it out of there. The West only believes him and chooses to ignore the truth and that's why our government is so upset. Look what he did in March of this year and look how his followers coldheartedly butchered the Han Chinese so that the Olympic spotlight could shine negatively on China. It almost worked but despite all the bad press we still pulled off a very successful Olympics and that is flying in the Dalai Lama's very face so he's stirring the pot once again. I don't see him condemning your lot for illegally invading and occupying Iraq for he could care less about their plight.
On the other subject, if China was to go it alone we wouldn't need near the resources we're using now and we could stretch what we have for a hell of a long time. We definitely have a large enough population base to sell to and we won't cause near the pollution we're guilty of now. I have googled many sites on our resources and we have a sh!tload of confirmed resources and speculative ones number far greater than that. They keep on discovering more oil and natural gas and we have iron and coal deposits to sustain our own population for centuries to come.
To sum it up Jim, if push came to shove we would and indeed could go it alone, and we have the military to back it up. Our military is always here at home and not scattered around the world and they are well prepared for anything, as you could see by their response immediately following that huge earthquake we had 6 and a half months ago.

The sooner China unveils it's hand and are dealt with the better. I can't wait till they get a damn good hiding. (most likely over Taiwan.)Although there Army have had lots of practice beating up Tibetans and oppressing its own people it is relatively untested in a full scale modern war. Watch this Chinese regime crumble like so many others before it.

It’s amazing that an east coast Scottish newspaper can attract such a high percentage of Chinese posters. Truly it is amazing. I doubt that there are actually 200 people who contribute regularly on this site but here are 3 regulars all from the land of the rising sun. That is a high percentage to say the least. Then when you consider what percentage of posters on here you would describe as an A-Hole all three of them are in that category as well. That’s truly amazing. Perhaps it’s one guy with multiple personalities and multiple accounts?

#5 Druginhead.

Ethnic cleansing is it? The Chinese gangster government is the world expert on ethnic cleansing, and genocide.

Their illegal occupation and armed oppression of Tibet, along with their policy of genocide of the Tibetan people and their attempts to replace the Tibetan people with Han Chinese stands as witness to that.

It's very strange that two foreigners, i.e. yourself and Skidmark, are such virulent supporters of such a murderous gangster regime. I have a sneaking suspicion that Mushy Marrow (The Rabid Rabbit) is also a foreigner.

Perhaps your gung ho attitude towards the Chinese gangster government is motivated by your desire to obtain Chinese citizenship, but it does not excuse your attempts to spread blatant, and patent, lies about the Dalia Lama.

In addition, it does not excuse your attitude towards the kidnapping and murder of an 8 year old child, the Panchen Lama, and his "replacement" by a brain washed Han Chinese child.

Still, I suppose you lot have to toe the line a fair bit, in view of the 30,000 flunkies the Chinese gangster government has monitoring all your internet activities.

Hey Guga old buddy old pal, I see that you as well as Horrible Cankers believe in the little Blue Smurf that is known as the Panchen Lama. Guga old buddy, it's a fairy tale, just like the ever popular Santa Claus, yet another fairy tale along with the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny, all fictional characters Guga. There's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Cinderella, Popeye and Olive Oyl, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, the Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny and the list is just endless. Do you shed crocodile tears for them too when they supposedly get hurt?

And Tibet is basking in glory as we speak, they've never had it any better and the last thing they want is the return of the Dalai Lama, well maybe if they could have a go at him they would accept him back. Forget the lies that the West is constantly feeding you Guga, just more fairy tales from them.
My doors are still open for you Guga, just say the word.

I have a co-worker who is from Daqing, Heilongjiang and she says the place is a real going concern and the place seems to be sitting on more oil than the state of Texas used to have and they just keep finding more with no end in sight. If we were to go it alone we would streamline everything and we could be self sufficient for centuries and like Mashimaro mentioned we always have Africa to fall back on, after all we have invested heavily there and are in good standing with a good deal of Africa and like Mashimaro also mentioned there's always South America.
China is definitely the country of now and the future and I can't think of a better place to live out my life.

It will give us plenty of time to get the proper travelling documents as well, something that may take a little more time for my wife, but you'd be better informed about that.

Only an American can be so far out of touch with the rest of the world that they think prolonging this crisis is "excellent". I guess that would be because you're not the ones starving to death because of American greed. Well let me tell you something, China will never give in to American green on Tibet either.
Just because the Eurotrash wants to be friendly with Nazis, poor people who live in starvation around the world will be suffering all the more. If the Dalai Lama and his gang of thugs really cared about people he would stay home and thus give China the chance to put its money where its mouth is. Guga there is no hope for you at all squire, none!Even the British Government has after nearly 60years admitted they have been wrong in using the term "Independence" for Tibet, and it should have been "Autonomy" (just as the Dalai Lama has claimed all along).By the way the last people to INVADE Tibet were the British in 1903!Your dross on a Han invasion is risible, as is your genocide claims. The Dalai Lama has consistently claimed 'cultural genocide',a far cry from your inane, incorrect rants.
The population of Tibet circa 1950 was 1.1Million all told. It is now around 2.3Million of whom around 166,000 are Han Chinese.Hardly swamping the local scene. Most of them are needed to run the essential services Tibet now basks in.Medical,Educational(and save your anti-communist drivel)transport etc.
Please explain how an ethnic population which remained almost constant for hundreds of years has more than doubled in the past 60years? Come on motor mouth, please explain? It used to be a favourite meal of mine what you spout on Tibet, TRIPE!

You will find at present my prescence is at the tip of the Liaoning Peninsular, about 180miles as the crow flies from the DPRK across the water, a wee bit further to the border at Dandong (Have been there several times and given the 'bird' to the DPRK Po faced Border Guards across the Yalu.Drank the local editor of the Newspaper and his mate under the table on Yalujiang Pijiu (Green Duck River Beer to you). Then if you squint further north about 150kilometres to the North west of Harbin (the station before is AnDa where the Japanese 731Unit carried out it's open air chemical warfare tests on everybody and anybody but the Japanese)is Daqing.Me in UK? You wish you? Why would anyone like to be in the Terrorist haven,Paedophile pardise,Criminal Disneyland,Socialist engineering Left of communism spot on the planet, when I can go up again and see the frozen Songhua River and the protected Wetlands of Heilongjiang?
