VENEZUELAN president Hugo Chavez gave Moscow a boost yesterday by recognising the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, two Russian-supported Georgian separatist regions.
In return, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev promised to sell Mr Chavez whatever weapons he wants, but in secret deals.

The old USSR was appropriately described as a bankers' not a workers' paradise leaving arms, oil and gas as its big export items. It's sad that Chavez's goverment has to waste its earnings on military hardware to fend of constant US engagement in covert and open warfare. George Washington warned against entanglement in Europe's dirty politics and imperial conquests which included Central and South America at the time. Give R E S P E C T to their world.

Alexandr Solzhenitsn lamented that the UN was a club of nations' governments none of them up to much good, not an organisation for the people of the planet.

China and Japan are no longer content to be the workshops of the world without seats at the New World Order's top table. They correctly see the USA and Europe as corporate plutocracies with politicians and elections as merely distraction and entertainment for the people. They'd contact Mr Rockefeller, not the President, to speak to America, and perhaps the non elected Javier Solana, right hand man for the old finance families of Europe.

We suspect that Global Summits are merely secret conclaves to consolidate corporate control. It's time to flush them out. We want a peace race, production for people, not this suicidal weaponry.

Perhaps this deal would not be going ahead if Barack Obama was not proceding with his plan for military installations in neighburing Columbia.

Chavez has been democratically elected 3 times, yet is still referred to by the US as a "dictator": their sponsored coup attept of him in 2002 (see Chile and Argentian in the 1970s) also failed.

With the history of the Americans rampaging throughout the world attempting to install their right wing policies and, with Venezuela's massive oil reserves, I'd be arming too if I was Chavez.

So while there is a lack of food in supermarkets, rising unemployment and hospitals are closing due to lack of funds, Chavez finds $500 million to buy weapons?

Chavez is democratic, only when he gets the results he wants, the people voted against him having an unlimited number of terms, so he made them vote again so they could vote "correctly"... (a bit like the EU and Ireland)

He is destroying freedom of speech and soon it will be illegal for journalists to write anything questioning or criticizing the government, or it's policies.

The US is very happy buying Venezuelan oil so why would it attack? Chavez criticizes the US but without their oil money he would have nothing to fund his policies with! The US bases were located in Ecuador for 10 years without problems, the only reason Chavez is in a huff and causing problems, is because Colombia will not bow to his pressure and Colombians do not like his policies. Also, with increased help, the Colombians will be able to combat the FARC terrorists and gather more intelligence information on them... perhaps Chavez is scared the Colombians will find yet more links tying him to the rebel group and destroy any credibility he has left within the international community.

Chavez is the only threat to stability in the region with his "grandioso planes" of trying to recreate Gran Colombia...

Have you a problem buying oil from Venezuela? Do you work for IMF, a bankster cartel that's been shown the door?

Do you need bases in Columbia to keep the drug trade going and wreck the kids of Los Angeles? Or why else do you occupy foreign countries.

More weapons for Chavez. With all the Americans occupying Colombia I guess he needs them.
