FOR someone who could soon be a heartbeat away from being the leader of the free world, it was hardly a performance likely to win over wavering voters.
Sarah Palin, running-mate of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, was yesterday a laughing stock after falling for a spoof call by a radio presenter pretending to be French president Nicolas Sarkozy. With 59 per cent of Americans already regarding her as unfit for office, Mrs Palin spent six minutes failing to realise that she was being set up by Canadian comedian Marc-Antoine Audette. He and partner Sebastian Trudel are known as the Masked Avengers, and their other victims include President Sarkozy, ex-French president Jacques Chirac, Paul McCartney and Britney Spears.

When Tony Blair was subjected to a spoof call in 1998 from comedian Jon Culshaw – who posed as the then Tory leader William Hague – it took him only seconds to spot the joke, though he played along.

But Mrs Palin missed a number of jokes from "President Sarkozy", from his wish to go hunting with her to his claim his wife Carla Bruni was "so hot in bed" and had written a song for Mrs Palin. He said his special US adviser was Johnny Hallyday – the veteran musician and actor known as the "French Elvis".

He told Mrs Palin hunting was one of his favourite hobbies. Speaking English in a fake French accent, he said: "I just love killing those animals. Mmmm, take away life, that is so fun." He said it would not be a good idea to invite Dick Cheney, the US vice-president who accidentally shot and injured a hunting partner during a quail hunt in Texas in 2006. Mrs Palin responded: "I'll be a careful shot."

She also failed to spot when Audette gave the name of Canadian singer, Stef Carse, as the Canadian prime minister, rather than the current incumbent Stephen Harper – and he also named a fellow comedian as the Governor of Quebec.

Mr Audette said he wanted to check whether Mrs Palin had been right to complain about hostile coverage from some US media organisations. "We tried to speak with her a little bit about foreign affairs, and well, it gave the result that you can air," he told the BBC.

A spokeswoman for Mrs Palin said: "Governor Palin was mildly amused to learn she'd joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy and other celebrities, in being targeted by these pranksters. C'est la vie."

Barack Obama's spokesman said: "I'm glad we check out our calls before we hand the phone to Barack Obama."

Oh my gosh, this is hilarious. Thanks Audette, for this prank phone call. As you have said: "I wanted to see how she was on an intellectual level," he told the Canadian Press. "You can see that she's, well, not really brilliant." Now you know why in America, we (educated and intelligent) women were totally turned off by her. And she still said that she did not know why women don't support her. She mentioned something like "there is a place in Hell for women who don't support women." So I guess all educated and intelligent women in the US will end up in Hell! LOL!

The phone call would never have made it to Obama because his staff is a bit smarter than Palins.
Palin especially enjoyed the bit about hunting animals from helicopters. There are lovely videos of the the "hunters" holding up their trophies. Most of the wolves are shot in the rear first, so they can't move while the hunters take their time finishing them off. Great Sport!

Anyone who is regarded as Conservative in politics must learn to live with a hostile media and be a little more acute in their responses. Palin deserves her embarrassment and should try learn from her gaffe. Perhaps follow Obama's example in having all her telephone calls vetted. In general Conservatives appear to be the constant objects of mockery in the media whereas there is a great reluctance to mock Liberal or Leftish political attitudes. One supposes that the prig takes him- or herself too seriously to consider subjecting their own ideas to ridicule.

You're forgetting the one that Lincon forgot, but which the New Labour Sleaze and Corruption Party exploits to the maximum, namely "You can fool most of the people, most of the time".

Sarah Palin could kill and eat her children on live TV. . . . . . . and the self-described "bimbos" and "trailer-trash" ladies on this board would STILL identify positively with her!

Just watch the excuses and defenses fly today !

There is no limit to the ignorance of this woman, nor
her evangelical / conservative / zionist followers.

Thank all of the powers that be that she has brought the Republican party to it's knees and that she will be relegated to the ranks of the rest of the harmless
morons on talk radio and TV.

She may be a diversion now and discussed as a possible mover within the Republican party, but I would safely guess that her entertainment career really is quite over and that she will be seen as having done more than her share of permanent damage to the party.

To those who held her up a a symbol of the rights of the unborn, I would suggest that you rather engage yourselves in promoting sex education and birth control for young women like Bristol Palin . . . . and remember that "home- abortions," with the death of BOTH mother and child, are the frequent result of banning of legal abortions. You are naive to think that you can stop the horrific process of abortion; what you CAN do is at least save the mother's life.

Those Quebecois comedians/commentators are world-renowned for their sly and very adroit impersonations of world-famous politicians and for exposing sleaze-bagettes like Britney Spears.

They are a national treasure and it IS true that OBAMA's team would have seen through them within a minute.

Too bad Palin and her shell-shocked and numb- nut advisors are so DIM.

And that should be "Lieutant-Governor" of Quebec. We don't have "governors" in Canada and the Lieutants-Governor is The Queen's representative in all provinces and territories here.

Stop censoring comments you cowardly scum. This is a european news-site. here we will say what we feel. It's called living in the free world. You may remember that from the past.

Palin is an appalling figure to have as a Govenor. How can you elect someone clearly so badly educated. This shines through every time she opens her ignorant mouth.

American's are sick of being humiliated before the world via the antics and utterances of the idiot son Bush. No more America, your going to need brains to get you out of the disaster of the last 8 years. I doubt there is an ounce of working grey matter on the Republican ticket.

"Valley trash and proud" says it all really. Just say no to "No education" politicians.

Why should we be surprised that Palin is a delta semi-moron? To believe even a fraction of the credo of the religious right one has to be completely comfortable with self delusion, unresolved contradiction and fairy tales or just a dumb, bimbo, airhead.

On a subject she puports to take a strong view on - to the extent of favouring restricting millions of women from deciding themselves - namely abortion,
she could not distinguish or did not understand the morning-after pill's status as as contraception or abortion.

She is too stupid for office, never mind the presidency.

I enjoy the jealousy shown in so many of the comments here. When you call her dumb, are you comparing her to yourself? Have you 5 children, a successful marriage, run businesses, been a mayor, a councilwoman, or a governor of the largest state in the United States? Have you been asked to run for the second highest office in your country? Have you negotiated a natural gas pipeline with the Canadians? Have you impressed the liberals on Saturday Night Live? Has your life given the goofy radio people any reason to call you? Would you catch on if they did? She's in pretty good company with those these dim bulbs have tricked. Most of the comments really show who is dumb...and it's not Sarah Palin.

This woman would eat your lunch...and down deep...you know it.

Sarah Palin is the future of America .All of the Park Ave.liberals ,the American hating left wing loons ,the puffed up snobbish pseudo elitists who have no clue about what the real Americans think ,are in for a huge shock in 2012 when Sarah is elected President in a landslide after four years of horror under the stewardship of obama .Do all you people who support obama realise that he voted four times to deny medical aid to aborted babies who are born alive after an abortion, who are then put aside in storage closets to die .That alone shows the mindset of this man ,an empty suit who has no accomplishments and does not deserve to be voted into any position of power.

As for Palin being the future of America, I would certainly hope not. The MSM, a bit late, is looking into her ties to the Assembly of God Church and their aims to create a Theocracy in the USA. Palin is described as one of their Warriors as is Katherine Harris of the Florida Fiasco. Very interesting material

Firstly, I think it's a funny prank. And that's all it is; a PRANK!
However,
I am rolling at the comments on this post. chics311 is particularly impressive.
Those of us who THINK appreciate this type of humor, though it chills us.
Can you imagine actually believing what the prophets of hate spew, and then being self-righteous about it?!!? It's like a religion where the other side is Satan... with all these little stupid anecdotes thrown in as proof. If there is a President Obama, will these "believers" try to kill him? Will they still perceive an America divided, thus fueling and funding the "war" for the soul of the United States, waging "battles" which detract from legitimate matters of state? Oh yes!
If there is a President McCain, will the defenders of the constitution and of civil rights and sane foreign policy give up and go belly up? I shudder.
People, we must work TOGETHER using truth to cut through our prejudices and perception.

Re: Sarah Palin & the abortion question

Just to be clear, I find abortion to be THE most detestable, repulsive, de-humanized, horrific act I have ever known on my 60+ year on this earth.
It goes against everything I was ever taught as a child and everything I believe as an adult. I feel
disgust in the pit of my stomach whenever I conjure up the images I have seen of this process over my lifetime.

I am among those who consider themselves to be "Pro-Choice / Anti-Abortion." Do you think that these
two ideas do not go together ? Unfortunately, they most certainly do.

I am also aware of the sobering reality that abortion
has been used to terminate birth since man walked the earth, a brutal, savage-but-true reality.

When legal abortions are outlawed, they continue nonetheless, despite my or your efforts to stop them.
Whether in bathrooms, basements or storage rooms in medical facilities, young women seek out the most
soul-damaging procedure we can imagine, to rid themselves of a pregnancy that they cannot contemplate.

The only tool we have to lessen this horrible brutality is knowledge; sex education and access to birth control. Anything less than this is simply wishful thinking. Access to adoption is a powerful tool, but not the only for those willing to agree to give up their child in this manner.

I am also horrified by the termination of life at LATER stages, as in the murder of some 600,000 - 800,000 mothers, fathers and children in Iraq.

How can we be against killing of the unborn and yet support the killing of older children ?

At what age do we STOP caring about their lives ?

It enrages me to see how the "conservative-right" has successfully used this topic top divide us and to demonize half of us, as if some of us actually support abortion.

I have NEVER spoken with, nor heard, ANYONE that was "pro-abortion !" NEVER in my life. All were equally revolted at the very idea of killing a human being in thi

killing a human being in this horrific manner.

Do some of you understand this ? Will you TRY to understand this ? The fact that many are in favor of a woman's choice to end a pregnancy doe NOT mean that
this is in any way acceptable or moral. It means that we are trying to deal with actual reality as it is, that young women will go to great lengths to end pregnancies and that many of them will die if they try to preform abortions themselves.

Do they deserve to die ?

Is this their proper penance ?

Sarah Palin has been party to the continuation of this immoral mythology, that the "left" is somehow in favor of abortion. How DARE she ?

Do you hear bitterness. . . .I hope that you DO !

Sarah has tried to divide us in order to get your votes, plain and simple. She plays on gut-level disgust and outrage regarding abortion and then uses it as a weapon agains the "godless" among us.

This is an outrage and she deserves to fade away into comic memory. . . .

What a xenophobic and ignorant thing to say.

NO Canadian would say such a thing about our greatest trading partner and ally in the war against terrorism, the US of A, and it just shows that there is a fool spouting off nonsense every day. People like you.

If it weren't for our vast fields of mustard seed YOU would not have mustard for your hot dogs at baseball stadiums or but for our vast postash fields - the largest in the world (EAT YOUR HEART OUT, NUMPTIE!)- YOU would not have that vital commodity for many manufacturing processes.

Now if any of these words are beyond your LIMITED EDUCATION, look them up in a dictionary - if you have one.

Also, our economy is in better shape than yours and at one point our dollar was worth more than yours. LIVE WITH IT!

You have the STUPIDEST AND MOST VILIFIED President in the history of your country and he will leave office not in glory but in shame and embarrassment at his incompetence and that of his Cabinet of fools.

I have heard of "p*nis envy" but "country envy"?

Since we are the second-largest country in the world after Russia we will always be BIGGER THAN YOU!

So get used to it and retreat to your slough of despond and hovel of stupidity.

d. feste.... 03/11/2008 21:21:03
how dare she??

do you understand the issue.. you claim some omniscience on the issue... lets delve into it a little deeper, OK?

its not abortion... plain and simple... and it IS a litmus test... a simple test on the understanding of the federal governments roll in your day to day life.

its federalism vs states rights... and plainly if you know the constitution you will understand the difference... the CRITICAL difference, how that difference relates, and what the problems are when the federal government infringes upon states rights.

ABORTION is a states rights issue... and legal in some form in most states throughout the union... and ILLEGAL in the GHOULISH standards that BO and the uber left support.

the TRULY DISPICABLE thing is that DEMOCRATS use the issue as some litmus test... spreading LIES that GOP candidates only wish is to overturn Roe v Wade... in spite of steady the unwavering "states rights" track records of the MAJORITY of GOP candidates.

go ahead show your intellecutal depth... tell me WHAT SCOTUS ruling has ruled that abortion is NOT a states rights issue...

YOU CANT FIND ONE... because since Roe V Wade there has never been one...

if you WANT a BIG Federalist government looking over your shoulder... governing your every move... making 8th month abortions legal... some judge 2500 miles away from you making law from the bench... fine, SAY SO...

if you LIKE the idea of States Rights... your LOCAL politicians making the laws you live by... being able to hold THEM accountable for what they do... YOU and your LAWMAKERS making the law.... you dont want BO... and you dont WANT the uber left...

BTW this States Rights vs Federalist argument has been going on since before our country was founded...

Thankfully, she's about to become part of a failed campaign history.
