What a load of politicised cobblers. Obama has not achieved *anything* of substance during is 9-or-so months in office.
It seems from the citation that Obama has been given this increasingly devalued prize for "organising" and "inspiring hope".
To that end I expect a swathe of nominations for the chair of the Swindon Women's Institute and little Bobby Smith's dad for inspiring hope in Bobby of a good Christmas present.
To look at the history of the recipients of this prize they eclipse Obama's hype.

Well, Obama joins a long list of loony winners such as Henry Kissinger, Yasser Arafat, Al Gore, Jimmy Carter, Menachem Begin, and Kofi Annan. Then there are complete frauds such as Rigoberta Manchu or deranged nutters such as Wangani Maathai who claimed that HIV was invented by white scientists to wipe out black people. The best of the lot was Cordell Hull who received the prize in 1945. This overlooked the unfortunate occasion in 1939 when, as Secretary of State, he refused entry at all US ports to the St Louis, a passenger ship carrying 1,000 Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany. The ship was forced to return to Hamburg and the refugees died in the concentration camps of the Third Reich. So, well done Barack, Cordell, and all the rest - and well done the Norwegian trolls who do the picking.

This prize is meaningless. Nobel would be devastated at some of the winners over the years. Time to end this circus.

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said
More like only very rarely has the world seen such a display of ass kissing.A bit like awarding ok magazine the Nobel prize for literature.

I think the Nobel Peace Prize should have been awarded to George Bush.
________________________________
That is what is wrong with all the sour-puss detractors of this coveted prize and cash reward. The evil warmongering cheats of the right-Whingers do not deserve such a prize. Perhaps you thing Bush should have got it for the benefits to mankind from Irakistan atrocities or the torture gulags, Geneva convention breaches of the coalition or the lives saved by Star wars tech, or the hanging of the old man called Saddam Hussein or for his version of democracy or the removal of Red-tape saving the world economy?
It is not called the Peace Prize for nothing. Israel would not be under investigations in a Bush/Blair world.

Let's be fair instead of simply nitpicking one party only. Hamas and Hezbollah would not be under investigations in an Arab/Persian world either.

So Obama won this "award" for not being george bush and for being black. Is this really what the european intellectual capacity has come to?
The guy has done nothing, achieved nothing except plung america deeper into trouble financially and watching his approval rating dip below 50%. His party collegues and supports had to play the race card after less than 8 months in office just to deflect attention away from his policies. Anybody can get a speach or book ghost written for you, but he will end up like Blair where the electorate had enough of the presentation and wanted some substance. Unfortunatly in the UK we got brown and next cameron!
#11 - do you really think that #10 was serious or maybe typing tounge in cheek?
Also you referred to the "hanging of the old man called Saddam Hussein". Was it not the iraqi government that hung him? Lets face it people who dissented againt his regime were not treated well, the mass graves being dug up all over the country attest to that.

This is abject political correctness.
The Nobel Committee are a bunch of Muppets who have bought into the grandiloquent guff spouted by Obama who is the glibbest President since Warren G. Harding.
However this is not the worst ever. How on earth could scumbags like Kissinger and Arafat ever have been awarded a peace prize?
The Nobel "Peace Prize" is a nonsense.

How can the Norwegians give the peace prize to the President and Commander in Chief of a country currently at war in Aghanistan, still occupying Iraq, got an illegal detention centre at Guantanamo, has failed to rein in their client state of Israel that has made no effort to make lasting peace with her neighbours?
Is it because he is black and as has been said "not George Bush"?
Is it really an award for America for not having elected an out and out warmonger? Was there really no one else more deserving?
Is it now to be awarded for any head of state who appears less belligerent than his predecessor?
My goodness the prize has been dumbed down. If I had been Obama, I would have been too embarrassed to have accepted it and told the Norwegians to wait until I had shown I could live up to their nomination.

This just makes an already devalued award further diminshed. Obama has only been on the world stage for a few months and has so far increased the number of troops in Afghanistan, far less reduced or withdrawn them. He has, like Blair, made appropriate noises as regards ME peace, but like most should really just win the Nobel Prize for Soundbite Management and Trendy Rhetoric.
Or maybe it was the Ham Piece award they were thinking about?

Even Obama, a man brimming with a sense of his own destiny, seems surprised at this one. But what has the prize been given for? Mr Obama has travelled abroad, often apologizing for his own country - certainly anxious to give the impression that he is president of a different America than the one that went before. The fellow talks a good number, for sure, but what has he actually achieved? Zilch. Is that what the Nobel Prize has become - a public speaking award? This decision, added to some other strange ones in the recent past, just confirms that the Nobel Peace Prize is no longer the prestigious award it once was.

Personally, I think the reason behind the 'Norwegians' award to this person was to give him absolute centre stage in the spotlight of world affairs.
There are quite a few people questioning the logic in supplying him with this prize. This raises a few other questions about the USA in general, their overseas policies, their treatment of alleged spies /terrorists, why are they occupying two foreign countries, the list goes on.
I take my hat off to the Norg’s, in one simple act they have focused the world’s attention on the USA & at an appropriate time. Though not without a bit of irony – Nobel Peace Prize?

I had the same experience. My sons and my wife who helped out of the crutches from the hospital, depression you know after the, ‘Change”, wondered why? Why don’t we start using the invisible marker thick 1 inch but not show this to the public. I feel so sad now. Can you help me by rubbing the comments you do not like using the BASIC goto loop . The teachers use these to pass the rich, but dumb students for the principal and go to the higher grades. They use hot iron rod to see that and parents do not have that. You have that?
NO?
Can and will he keep the price sorry prize?

Spot on. Obama should stop feeling "humbled" and start feeling embarrassed. If he had any dignity at all he would refuse the prize and ask the panel to re-consider him in 4 years time.
Word here in South Africa is that Nelson Mandela is starting to wonder if the only reason he got the prize was because he was black as well......

The committee had to award the prize to Obama quickly and before he did something to not deserve it. Like increase troops in Afghanistan, or not close Gitmo or continue rendition or sinks the US into Chinese ownership dragging the UK down with it.
They had to give it to him before word got around that Obama shunned the Dalai Lama because China said so(a peace prize winner who deserved the award) - a clear signal Obama and the Democrat Congress wants money, lots of it, and they want it more than they want peace.
What a kick in the butt for the human rights activists around the world who risk their life and were nominated for the prize but lost to someone who was in office only ten days to be nominated, and win
