THE prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is expected to charge Sudan's president with genocide and crimes against humanity today, when he reveals details of a probe into atrocities in Darfur.
In an indication of the fury that could be unleashed if Omar al-Bashir is charged with orchestrating a five-year reign of terror in Darfur, his ruling National Congress Party yesterday warned of "more violence and blood" in the vast western region if an arrest warrant was issued against him.

Mr Al-Bashir huddled with cabinet ministers and advisers in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, considering their response to any charges. Sudan has also asked the Arab League for an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers.

Outside the meeting, hundreds of Sudanese demonstrated in support of Mr al-Bashir, who seized power in a 1989 coup. Others held signs ridiculing the ICC and its prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo of Argentina.

Ocampo was due to present his evidence to judges in the Netherlands today. A three-judge panel at the Hague-based court will then study it before deciding whether to issue an arrest warrant.

Hopefully #1, he's next.

Mr. Luis Moreno-Ocampo should be congratulated today for bringing charges against a vile and evil perpetrator of human rights abuses.

There are many in the International Community how today are voicing disagreement with this decision. Notably Russia, China and members of the African Union. They have said that this decision endangers the lives of the ineffective peacekeepers and the refugees. They are wrong. Fear of punishment is the only thing that will protect the lives of peacekeepers and refugees not just in Darfur, but in other conflict zones as well.

You can expect that they will try to have the charges quashed. They prefer to live in a World where the state can do anything that it likes to its own citizens. They have lived in fear of the day that the rule of law would be extended to cover the crimes of political leaders. Well it seems that day has come.

I hope that an enlightened new administration in the US under President Obama, will finally join the rest of the free world and support the ICC. Since the UN security council has proved itself utterly incapable of protecting human rights, our last and best hope is the ICC.

#3 Surely you can think of a lot more worthy political leaders than those 2 idiots.

How about the Ni Win and the Burmese Junta, or Kim Il Sung,or Ahmedinajad.

Even an obvious lefty crack pot such as yourself knows their are some truly evil people even more deserving than Blair and Bush... like Cheney.
