A CLASSICAL musician from Livingston has recorded her first CD after record label bosses spotted her on a BBC talent show.
Bassoon player Karen Geoghegan, 19, reached the final three of BBC2 talent show Classical Star and impressed bosses of Chandos Records so much she was snapped up immediately afterwards and offered a deal to cut an album.

She said: "It's a great situation to be in. It has given me the chance to really do something for the bassoon, a somewhat neglected instrument.

"It's been very exciting making my own CD and it was very unexpected as I didn't win the show. Things have been going really well since then. The album has had very good reviews and I've got lots of performances in the summer."

The musician started playing the violin when she was six, but was coaxed into playing the bassoon in her first year at West Calder High School.

A CD of Bassoon music. Is there a market for this stuff? Sounds about as entertaining as the sound of drawing your Finger nails down a blackboard. What is a Bassoon?
