Throw goes on for bizarre game

THE annual World Black Pudding Throwing Championship has been saved after the tournament came under threat following the closure of its venue, it was announced today.

A new home has been found for the world’s most bizarre pub game, which has been held in Lancashire for more than 150 years.

Following the closure of the Corner Pin pub in Rossendale, Lancashire, Bury Metro Council’s Economic Development Unit appealed for a new venue for the competition. The Royal Oak pub in the village of Ramsbottom, near Bury, has stepped forward to save the day and hold the championship on September 28.

Cllr Tim Chamberlain, of Bury Metro Council, said: "I am delighted the council has been able to save the tournament.

"This is a uniquely Lancastrian event, a unique feature of the area’s events calendar, a boost for tourism and great showcase for one of Bury’s most famous products."
