A GOVERNMENT quango which spent £140,000 of taxpayers' money to fund research into the history of pockets has been accused of wasting public funds on frivolous projects.
The grant was awarded to Southampton University by the Arts and Humanities Research Council to study the unusual topic over the course of three years.
Katherine Murphy, from the Patients Association, said the news that money was being "wasted" on frivolous research would anger taxpayers and patients.
