Abuse claim after pet-sitter let pig get fat
A WOMAN whose potbellied pig trebled in weight while a friend was looking after it wants to file abuse charges against the pet-sitter.
Michelle Schmitz said her pig, Alaina Templeton, weighed 22.5kg when she was left with a colleague who offered to care for the animal in February, when Ms Schmitz went on medical leave.
Nine months later, the pig weighed 68kg and it took vets more than four hours to surgically remove the animal's collar. Officers are investigating whether Alaina was abused by neglect and overfeeding.
"That pig is my life," said Ms Schmitz, who has a tattoo of Alaina's name.
