Published Date: 13 March 2007
THE Egyptian Appeal Court yesterday upheld a four-year prison sentence given to a blogger who had been convicted of insulting Islam and Egypt's president.
The sentence imposed on Abdel Kareem Nabil, 22, last month was widely attacked by local and international rights groups as an attempt to curb free expression.

I never could figure out why "insulting" a politician is an offence. If it was in Scotland, they'd have to lock up the majority of the population for expressing their views on wee Joke McConnell and his master, Bliar.

Egypt will be one of the countries that we have very good relations with (despite our seemingly ethical foreign policy).

I don't know about the UK, but the US is very chummy with Egypt. They are one of the countries we "rendition" people to because they can use torture without as much scrutiny.

The Mubarak dictatorship in Egypt is financed to a large extent by the US with more than half of the "aid" being military. This is to ensure that a large, populous and well armed country which borders Israel is kept under control.
This is what GWB calls spreading Freedom and democracy.

That's the problem with most Islamic countries aided by mainly odd, lunatic mullahs who cannot tolerate freedom of speech. Those living in the West should be thankful then.

Infidel, you're correct.
