A FLOTILLA of Russian warships arrived in Venezuela yesterday to conduct joint naval exercises, another step in president Hugo Chavez's effort to strengthen an alliance with Moscow.
Russia is seeking to boost its influence in the western hemisphere, taking advantage of anti-Washington sentiment in Latin America.

Comrade Chavez should tell the Russian commanders to dock well out of the harbour, what with the dismal safety record of Russia's third-rate tin pot navy.

He wouldn't want an accident to harm any of his FARC pals or jeporadise the cocaine traffic out of his ports.

I know a young lad in our navy who docked in Venezuela last year.
What were the headlines then? Plenty naval vessels go there from various countries.

Do you not think ken livingstone advising on transport is a bigger danger to safety.

What if hugo was pouring money into the banks and making threats to nationalise them?
