PRIME Minister Gordon Brown said he was looking forward to working with the new US President.
In a statement, Mr Brown said: "I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to Barack Obama on winning the Presidency of the United States.

"I would also like to pay tribute to Senator McCain who fought a good campaign and has shown the characteristic dignity that has marked a lifetime of service to his country.

"The relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom is vital to our prosperity and security.

"Barack Obama ran an inspirational campaign, energising politics with his progressive values and his vision for the future.

"I know Barack Obama and we share many values.

"We both have determination to show that government can act to help people fairly through these difficult times facing the global economy.

"And I look forward to working extremely closely with him in the coming months and years."

"THIS IS NO TIME FOR A NOVICE."

Sorry Gordon what was that you said?

"THIS IS NO TIME FOR A NOVICE."

Thought so.

Well lets add that to the big list of words that you will have to eat starting with "No more Boom and Bust."

6# " Well he will not be working with Salmond ever' I hate to tell you that the hawaiians have more in common with the scots than you might think, for one like Scotland they were never conquered, like the Scots their birthright and land was sold to the Americans, and barrack Obama being born and raised in Hawaii knows what that was like not being in control of your own country and being treated as second class,
so when Scotland is an independant NATION Mr Obama will work with who ever is the leader of a FREE Scotland.

Says Toom Tabard. Gonnae change the record pal?! "Fairly", "difficult times", "global economy", etc. Bankrupt in money terms and obviously in ideas too. I'm sure Obama is really looking forward to working with this failed dunce like a bad smell.

Come on Glenrothes!

I hope Brown can use his world influence to convince Obama to increase taxes on the poor and introduce 42 day imprisonment of innocent people.

A good day to bury bad Brown.

I see Broon was in Saudi last week, putting a deposit down for Idi Amin's old house. Sheltered housing for old despots. Dunditherin cottage.

What a great International image our 'leader ' now portrays in his (self acclaimed of course!) picture of financial saviour of the World - as he traipses around the World with his (presumably giant size!) 'Begging bowl!'

Presumably, from the result we are now suffering, with his excellent handling of the Economy (must be true - his friend Blair said so!!!) it seems he will need not only a much larger 'begging bowl' preferably motorised and possibly able to be airborne, suitable to all climatic conditions and terrain - and many 'little helpers' - similar to Santa Claus, although I doubt their will ever be the same trust placed in the PM Brown and his colleagues - ever again!

I strongly suggest that if he is 'lucky' enough to get any donations in his bowl - no matter the value, it would be 'prudent' - in fact should become 'compulsory' for the Nation to ensure he gets nowhere near to it! His ability to handle, control and use our money 'for best purpose' has obviously failed tremendously - and we must ensure he is never again 'in Charge!'

Not only has he robbed the nation of some valuable assets, he seems to live by the rule of successive and continual ‘short changing us’, mainly it seems simply for the personal financial betterment of New Labour Politicians, no matter the failure rate they accomplish!

Also Wakey! Wakey! - as we now see him placing 'his' great confidence in a past re-knowned Political failure - Mandleson, as if you didn't know - who knows what 'they' may be getting up to - and it's not too unbelievable to think it may be something unsavoury / distasteful to many folk!!!

I think this game is called 'Politics' but feel sure there are / is more apt and nearer the truth names that are glaring out at us!

"Why can't we comment on the SNP on a high story surely that is equally important?"

It may be an 'equally important' story in your insular, parochial little head, but in the real world an article about the SNP being favourites to win a by-election is nowhere near 'equally important' to an article about the US election.

You really need to grow up and realise that in the worldwide scheme of things the Glenrothes by-election is completely irrelevant and insignificant when compared to the US election.
