Published Date: 29 March 2008
A UK expert on climate change says he believes humanity has the technological power to tackle global warming.
But Professor Chris Rapley CBE, director of London's Science Museum and former director of the British Antarctic Survey, said governments had to "go up a gear" to meet the challenge. He raised the issue as he prepared to receive the Edinburgh Medal at the Edinburgh Science Festival for his climate-change work.

Writing in the The Scotsman, today, he said: "Behaviour in all of society has to change. At this stage, nobody knows which technology is going to win, which means the financiers will have to spread their investments. They must cope with the kind of uncertainty they have not confronted since the 19th century, before fossil fuels..."

He added: "However, in principle, we are the masters of our own destiny and ought to be able to solve it."

The medal is awarded to scientists making a significant contribution to "the understanding and well-being of humanity".

More Global Warming nonsense. The sooner this dangerous obsession goes out of fashion the better.

#1 Yes, Indeed. But this one, a patron of the Optimum Population Trust, has made such profound scientific statements as: "the truth is that the contribution of each individual [ to the human environmental footprint]cannot be reduced to zero. Only the lack of the individual can bring it down to nothing." The optimum population the Trust seeks is around 2-3 billion. The current population is around 7 billion. At least 4 billion have to go - and you get a medal for this!!! (Source BBC 6-01-06)

With all the record cold and snowfall globally and bio-fuel induced starvation due we actually could do with someone who is an expert at surviving in the cold.

Parsimonious and haughty will have to go, sorry. There is not now, has never been and may well never be "the technological power to tackle global warming" as the Sun causes it to come and go so we puny humans are powerless (yes I realize no-one likes that particularly inconvenient truth) in the face of nature.

By winning the fight with climate change does that mean we create stasis i.e. no change in climate or warming reversal meaning we have to use more energy to keep those that live in temperate or cold climate warm? It really is getting utterly boring and verging on sycophantic if bawbags like the person in the article thinks mass genocide is the only way forward. The Nazis really have won the day!

Mistake is the problem is not Climate Change it is
ACCELERATED Climate Change.
There should be tax relief for those who do not have children and no child benefits whatsoever.

eyeswider- stop being silly. We have plenty of evidence that you refuse to admit regarding our influence on the climate. Moreover, we just about have the technology to do things about it as well.
Dave- winning the fight with climate change means we won't be heating the earth up unduly or acidifying the oceans, and will therefore avoid all these ill effects. It will mean more of a return to the normal ups and downs of climate.

Just this once I came back to a topic and will paste a couple of links that you, no doubt, will claim come from oil employees with glossy websites or such (this is one reason why I don't bother any more with you guys)

This is pertinent to this particular eugenicists specialty - the Antarctic - and goes to show how media/scientific bias/propaganda has bamboozled the common man but is now being exposed:

First the science/data from NASA(Nice glossy website):

Now an admittedly political viewpoint from a member of the US senate(probably paid for by the oil/coal/mafia/whatever conspiracy you adhere to):

I fully realize that by putting two links here I allow you to veer off at a tangent by attacking one or the other and ignoring the salient bits of both but I probably won't revisit this topic as I am actively pursuing other "stuff".

Do you ever listen to yourself? I doubt it and will tell you why. If you truly (ever)listened to your instincts you would be on the other side of the fence. There are plenty of resources for far more people than currently live on this planet - but greedy uncaring ones here in the developed world want more than a fair share so it seems unbalanced. It ain't. Your vaunted ACC is a crock. Even AGW is just a scam.

Again don't bother replying to me as I am gone. I detest the Club of Rome/Malthusian/eugenics lies and hatred of self.

Here is a scientist explaining media bias:
