A WOMAN believed to be the oldest virgin in Britain yesterday celebrated her 105th birthday.
Clara Meadmore, who was born in Glasgow, enjoyed a glass of wine with her friends at the Perran Bay nursing home in Truro, Cornwall.

Meadmore said her celibacy was the secret behind her long life and that she had never had sex because it seemed like "a lot of hassle".

A spokeswoman for the home said: "The birthday has gone really well. She has been down to see her friends."

Her family travelled and she lived in Canada and New Zealand before moving back to Britain in her twenties

She retired to Cornwall 40 years ago.
