THOUSANDS of protesters will today urge the Government to bring British troops home from their mission in Afghanistan.
Lance Corporal Joe Glenton, who is facing court martial for refusing to return to Afghanistan, will become one of the first serving soldiers to attend an anti-war demonstration since the invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001.

It’s amazing in the article he is still being called a Lance Corporal, he is breaking the law and should be treated like the criminal he is.

It was acceptable for him to take the Queens Shilling and take the Oath of allegiance, but as soon as he is asked to perform his duty he takes the cowards way out.

No-one forced him to join the Army, he wasn’t a conscript as those who lay their lives down in WW1 and WW2 for him to sit and him like a little boy “I am not playing anymore!” He joined of his own free will, free will that others died for and are dying for.

While he is sitting there tonight at home tucking into his dinner, I hope he chokes on his guilt.

PJ is incorrect in thinking that this war resistor is somehow unpatriotic or bad. A majority of britains oppose the afghan adventure completely (same with Americans). Majorities of all of the peoples of all of the coalition nations, germany, france, italy, canada are opposed to the war.

The idea that we should just go and kill people simply because the government says so is abhorrent to civilized people. It is something that will lead to barbarism.

American journalist Dahr Jamail has taken a keen interest in the war resistors for years. Jamail was virtually the only American journalist who spent significant time in Iraq, but was not embedded with US troops or in the safety of the green zone and instead mixed in with the Iraqis.

PJ said that this fellow took the coward's way out as soon as he was asked to serve. this is not true. He has already been to Afghanistan and was asked to go back a 2'nd time. It was the 2'nd time that he declined his orders.

This is a peculiar phenomenon. The most anti-war people in America are the soldiers who have served. Ask them if we should be there and they will say 'no'. I would imagine it is similar in Britain.

I will reiterate my previous comment “No-one forced him to join the Army, he wasn’t a conscript as those who lay their lives down in WW1 and WW2 he joined of his own free will”

I knew what I was doing when I joined!

If he had these beliefs why did he join? Having joined the Army in 2004, bearing in mind Operations began in Afghanistan in 2001 and the War in Iraq began in 2003 he had ample of opportunity to not join or did he think it would have been over my Christmas.

Did he think he was just going to sit in the NAAFI all night and the only action he was going to see, was last orders at the bar.

In Civvy street he would have been done for a Breach of Contract, he signed a binding agreement when he took the Oath of allegiance.

Humans have been fighting wars since the beginning of time.

Beachcomber.

The legalities or the rights or wrongs of the War in Afghanistan are not in question here pay attention, it is the betrayal of one man on his fellow men.
