A CONTROVERSIAL new policy to ban smokers from fostering children has been passed by a council.
The ban, which was passed unanimously at a cabinet meeting of Redbridge Council last night, means that children in the east London borough will not be placed with foster carers who smoke after January 2010.

Councillors say the move is crucial in protecting children.

This is blatant discrimination and Redditch Council should be made to pay for it through the courts.

If they were disciminating against any other group in this way, they would rightly be brought to book in no uncertain terms. This mass hysteria about smoking has gone way too far and it should stop now.

Top marks to Redditch Council. A common sense approach that saves kids from the the pervasive stench and poisonous effects of passive smoking.

As usual, Fuel Head #1 talks his usual drivel about 'mass hysteria" and his "rights". Why don't you go away and smoke yourself to death (far away from everyone else)?

Glenda,

If you really believe what you have posted at #2 and are not just having a joke then you are almost certainly in need of help.

Passive smoking DOES NOT EXIST. It never has done, it never will do. It exists only in the minds of those who seek to justify their selfishniess by pretending that they are actually being caused harm and to be honest, they are no better than liars.

I have asked this before and I will ask it again. IF "passive smoking" exists, then PROVE IT. Name six people who have died from it in the last year. If you can't prove it SHUT UP and go away.

It's like "Oh yes. We have discovered a cause of death that affects thousands of people a year. We have absolutely no evidence that anyone has actually died of it, but it is a cause of death nonetheless". Do me a favour will you.

My ex-husband was a chain smoker. Our son had 5-8 ear infections and 1-3 instances of bronchitis each year until age 11, when his father moved out. He's not had any illness since. Nobody died, and no lives were saved, but there is some effect of passive smoking, I could swear.

Probably co-incidence...

Glenda 2# it's Redbridge not Redditch. Fuel head if the experts say passive smoking kills then it's good enough for me. Even if it didn't, smokers still stink everywhere they smoke to high heaven. Maybe smoking has clogged up your sense of smell?

You need to be 'squeaky clean' (and "disclosed") these days! What about all the drinkers and gamblers, both are addictions the same as smoking? Then there's the organic, vegetarian, Ecover, carbon-neutral, wind turbine on the back lawn/solar-panelled persons to consider!
