THE Royal Family was criticised yesterday for making a "serious error of judgment" after pictures of the Queen's grandson's wedding were published in a magazine.
Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly are rumoured to have been paid £500,000 by Hello!, but the deal was described as smacking of "greed" by Norman Lamb, a Liberal Democrat MP.

The images cover every aspect of the wedding, held at St George's Chape
l at Windsor Castle on Saturday, and the reception at the nearby Frogmore House. The North Norfolk MP criticised the 94-page feature as a "quite a serious error of judgment".

"If you have a Royal Family, then the institution should be respected, and to descend into commercialism akin to a celebrity footballer or rock star or whatever, I don't think it's very sensible. It also makes it more difficult for them to argue the case for privacy."

Mr Lamb, who said he supported the Royal Family, added: "It smacks rather of greed on the one hand and damages the Royal Family and their standing."

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are pictured with other senior royals. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are also featured, as are younger royals – Prince Harry and his cousins, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.

The photos do not cover every aspect of the wedding as the ceremony was out of bounds, added to which, neither Peter nor Zara Philips receives any money from the Civil List. They are both working people with full time jobs. Why shouldn't Peter and his new wife make money out of this event? Plenty of other, much less worthy people have made heaps...Posh & Becks spring to mind!

Wonder why the Royals did not try to keep their financial arrangements secret - er - like MPs.
No wonder this MP is sore. It would take an MP at least two or three years to accumulate so much money for himself and his family.
But he should console himself that an MP can carry on raking it in for much longer than the happy couple, as well as enjoying the rigors of a good few fact-finding trips to rough it in sunny climes.

Hello! would have cheerfully paid half a million or more for shots of Madonna's wedding (for instance). What is wrong with them paying that sum for a minor Royal's wedding?

Well done Mr Lamb - making a comment about the Royals who as we all know, do not comment back and on a subject that really, most folk don't seem to have issue with.

Just another indication of how most policitians are out of touch with people.

If Mr Lamb REALLY wanted to make a name for himself, he could start exposing the disgraceful levels of public spending and waste that riddles this country and ways of preventing it.

I am not holding my breath.

#7 Are you any relation to the Trossachs Trundler?

Your spot on, the Royal Family are easy targets for some
& this is yet another non-story.

Give the Royals a break, they rule!

The only issue i have is when the Royals then try and complain about people respecting their privacy, like other celbs do. You either have full privacy or full access, you cant let the cameras in for some stuf and then moan when they see more than you want them to.

Having said tha, i have no idea who these people are so i doubt they have cameras following them constantly, and as has been said they have to get therir money somehow. If i was offered £500,000 for my wedding id probably take it to.

Actually the Scottish Press are a bit hazy on the details. The Fact of the matter was that ER & Philip were unaware of the photo deal until the actual day of the Wedding. They snubbed the Pap Mag and posed as a family group on the steps of the venue for ALL the papers and Pap Mag were NOT allowed to take part in that photo shoot!

That the Pap Mag has published OTHER photo's of the Royals is going to get them in a whole heap o' cr@p!

I mean, you can't tell me that the Queen would knowingly get paid for photo's of Herself and open Herself to the criticism already evident in this comment column. She really isn't that stupid you know . . . .

One wonders where this "parasite" moniker comes from.
The close relatives of HM The Queen who carry out public engagements (over 3000 last year) have their official expenses (i.e. parliamentary annuities) paid by the Queen. The only exception is the Duke of Edinburgh; and his annuity covers his expenses only- it is not a salary. No member of the Royal Family receives a "hand out" from the UK government-despite what Labour politicians keep saying. And the other relatives are wealthy in their own right (and Peter Phillips works for the Royal Bank of Scotland for God's sake!)...so hardly need any taxpayer support (unlike, erm, how many in Scotland?).
Check the royal website under "Finances" if you'd like the explanation (tho' a lot of good it does...wonder why they even bother): www.royal.gov.uk
