Parents urged to vaccinate children from measles threat

THE Government has launched a renewed campaign to ensure children up to the age of 18 receive the MMR jab.
The Department of Health is making extra doses of the vaccine available and pledging more cash to help NHS trusts vaccinate youngsters in their area.

Uptake rates of the jab vary across England but are particularly low in London.

Trusts in the capital will receive an extra £60,000 while those outside London will get £30,000.

In 1998, a study published in the respected medical journal The Lancet suggested a link between the jab, autism and bowel disease.

Lead author Dr Andrew Wakefield is currently appearing before the General Medical Council (GMC) on charges relating to the research.

Chief medical officer, Sir Liam Donaldson, has written to all primary care trusts asking them to help cut the risk of a measles epidemic.

He wants parents to get unprotected children immunised.

It is of no surprise of no surprise atall, no-one wants this jab, can you blame them!?

If anyone is to blame, it is the Health Boards for taking away our choice of the single jabs, which if they still provided, over 99% of parents would still have their child immunised !

If my DYW and I have children, we have absolutly no intentions of letting them have the MMR, we dont believe the lies, we will take them abroad if need be, to have them immunised with the single jabs.

Andrew Wakefield, the doctor who originally claimed there was link between the MMR and Autism in a study involving only TWELVE children which has since been debunked by a Canadian study involving 500 000 children and a Swedish study with 1 000 000 has bee,n suspended by the GMC because of the poor quality of his methodology. The Swedish and Canadian studies find no difference in the percentages of children with autism within the vaccinated and non-vaccinated groups.

The link between autism and the mmr has yet to be made and it certainly does not explain why so many children who have been vaccinated don't develop autism, nor does it explain the number of autistic children who have never been vaccinated, the number of families within multiple cases of autism within or the existence of 'autism clusters', which, like cancer clusters, exist in areas of high pollution.

NO ONE knows for sure what causes autism. The current evidence points to a combination of genetics and environment, however the exact cause remains unclear pending further research. Continuing to perpetuate hysterical myths [autism doesn't exist in Amish communities] is unhelpful in dealing with a very serious and emotional issue.

The long and the short of it is that the more retarded parents aren't going to vaccinate their kids until a kid down the road dies from measles.

There's nothing "retarded" about it, fact is, some are not 'sucked in' with everything we hear.

'NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE'! as the saying goes.

Just because our feeble science cannot find the link yet, it don't mean there isn't one.

Certain factors in some children's genetic makeup, may cause big problems if they have the MMR.

The only "retarded" are the ones who took our choice away in the first place, in not allowing single vaccination's.

I believe you can get single vaccinations on the NHS. you just need to speak to your GP to see if they offer it. If not, you can get it done privately through your GP for a small fee. There is a lot of information on autism and the MMR freely available. Parents just need to make sure they do before choosing whether or not to have their children vaccinated.

I don't trust people who resort to name calling when dealing with a very emotional and divisive issue. As for the government, I have done my own research into the links between autism and the MMR as I would advocate all people do before choosing whether or not to vaccinate their children. I have also heard about the offer to vaccinate boys against HPV, which is a virus that causes cervical cancer in GIRLS that is transmitted sexually from BOYS. Both BOYS and GIRLS can get HPV. HPV is responsible for genital warts in boys - a condition, while not fatal in boys, can not be cured and cause life-long sexual and emotional problems in boys. Any flare up in boys can potentially give their partner the HPV caused cervical cancer. There is no legal requirement to vaccinate girls for HPV nor will there be one for boys as there is no legal requirement to vaccinate children with the MMR. It is up to parents to do the research before choosing to vaccinate. It is the parents CHOICE to vaccinate or not and they need to know what they are talking about without being bullied or insulted.
