BORIS Johnson, the mayor of London, yesterday scrapped a proposed £25 charge on cars with the highest emissions entering the city centre after a legal challenge by Porsche.
The car maker said it had been awarded legal costs, expected to total a six-figure sum, and that the money would be donated to charity.

Good for Boris!

We can expect a lot more common sense things like this once the Tories get back into power.

why is it that rich people are allowed to pollute the environment more than the poor?just because they can afford the petrol, does it mean they should?don´t they feel the guilt?

#1 Boy Blunder, did you read the artical, he had no choice as Porsche challenged the ban in court and won. If anyone's a complete ar5se it's red ken for introducing it in the first place!

I think you will find that a brand new luxury car polutes the air a lot less than a 15-year-old banger that does about 100 miles per pint of engine oil.

Even though the stupid labour government has spun it round, CO2 is NOT a pollutant and never has been. Newer, modern cars are not only more fuel efficient but also have cleaner exhausts that 15-20 year old ones.

It is about time that someone took a stand against the 11 years or labour madness and sucking up to extremeist tree-hugger pressure groups, and I'm pleased that Boris has done so.

#5 Alternative (High-Octane) Fuel Head,
We don't know who you are but you certainly

No it doesn't the 15 year old banger probably only leaves the stret once a week and then only to go to the paper shop.
Compare like with like
A new 4x4 is NOT as economical as a smaller car.
Your getting dizzy with your own spin.

All the motormouths who have been shot in the mouth by their own lobby group the RAC who say

Motoring costs have gone doen 18% in real terms over the past 20years despite a 140% rise in fuel charges.
I hope Cameron and all the weak kneed politicians read this and stop cow towing to the motormouths and petrolheads.

Since similar efficiencies apply to road haulage and they have received reductions in other taxation then they also can shut up.

I read that report also.
However I cannot follow it.
I think my car tax is 3 x as much now as it was then
Insurance is 2 x + what I paid then
Petrol is, as we know 140% more
Servicing costs (parts/labour) have increased.
All this on the same type of car and similar spec/engine size.
So where are the real-term savings I want to know?

So easy to bash Boris.

Would anyone thank him for using taxpayers' money on an expensive and probably futile appeal against Porsche? The man had no choice and was probably advised this by lawyers.

In any case, the climate change/CO2 argument is codswallop. It's just a convenient way for Brown to slap more tax, tax, tax on us to fund his army of Labour-voting benefits claimants who has no intention of forcing back into the workplace (ie: the jobs we are having to fill by relying on eastern European, Chinese etc labour).
