IN TERMS of failing to hit its target audience, launching a poster campaign in Edinburgh for the London mayoral elections must come close to the top of the list.
But that is what was unveiled at Holyrood yesterday by Matt O'Connor, the founder of the action group Fathers 4 Justice and now a rival to Ken Livingstone and Boris Johnson.

Mr O'Connor, who orchestrated stunts such as the powder-bombing of Tony
Blair in the Commons, at least upheld his promise to bring "theatre and drama" to the campaign – even from a distance of 330 miles.

The poster calls on voters in next month's poll to "Save London from Labour's tartan taxes", which it claims amount to a £13.5 billion annual loss to the English capital.

Mr O'Connor, 40, a father of three, is standing for the English Democrats, which campaigns for an English parliament. He is one of ten candidates for mayor. He said Scottish MPs such as Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling were using UK funds, as allocated by the Barnett formula, to favour taxpayers north of the Border.

Referring to the poster, Mr O'Connor said: "I know we have had a strong reaction. I'm not aware that it has been vandalised but I wouldn't have thought it would be too long.

"Some people say it's racist, but it's not. I say that as someone who is half-Celtic himself."

He added: "It's part of a long-term political campaign to get people talking about the democratic deficit in the United Kingdom and the Barnett formula, which I perceive as almost an electoral bribe not to vote SNP by the Labour Party."

Keep up the good work mate. The more like you the better as you'll help the Scottish people to see the need for independence.

I note that the Comrade Editor is still not allowing us to make any comments on any aspect of the Dinky Di inquest.

I want to know why Burrell is not being done for perjury, unlike a certain gentleman in Scotland who has had half the police force trying to fit him up.

Matt O’Connor! you must be joking, wasn’t he the one who left his Fathers 4 Justice Members high and dry, was left unaccountable for membership fee's and monies raised. Is a confessed alcoholic and living with a woman who whilst claiming to support fathers rights denies the father of her child to see it!! Trust O’Connor with the well being of London and as with F4J it too will suffer in more ways than one.

Politicos might see this as a joke but your average voter may well be a bit miffed. No doubt this will register as even more votes for the SNP at the next election.

I thought this was a late April Fool.
I'd like to see this muppet try the same thing with the Polish, Pakastani or even Irish nationalities within the UK.
I realise this guy is probably just a publicity hound but I'm sure that's how people saw Hitler when he first started ranting about the Jews.

Using us to enhance his getting the job tells you what an idiot he is.
We hope he gets the job as it will give us much more say in tightening our border at HADRIANS DYKE and keeping out those south of it,entry by passport only.

Ahh the smell of independence, the SNP couldnt buy this level of support (no matter how hard they tried).
I saw the ads in sunday paper and first reaction was he wouldnt be able to get away with it if it was directed at the asian, afro-carribean, muslim or jewish communities why is he allowed to get away with it having a go at the Scots, who contra to popular spin dont sponge off the UK as much as everyone says we do.

#11 JT "he wouldnt be able to get away with it if it was directed at the asian, afro-carribean, muslim or jewish communities why is he allowed to get away with it having a go at the Scots,"

By and large, the asians, afro-carribeans and jews you reference are regarded as races. 'Scot' in today's world is not.

Muslims, however, being a religious grouping rather than a racial one, are 'special' in Britain because we have become terrified of offending them.
