Labour has broken pledge on Europe vote, says poll

THE majority of voters believe Labour has reneged on a pledge to grant a referendum on reform of the European Union, according to a poll.
Nearly two-thirds think the government has "gone back on its initial promise" to give them a say on the EU Constitution, even though it has been replaced by the Lisbon Treaty.

The findings come ahead of a High Court battle this week between the government and eurosceptic millionaire Stuart Wheeler, who is seeking a judicial review to force a vote.

Ministers insist the treaty is substantially different to the constitution, which was formally ditched in 2005 after voters in France and Holland rejected it.

But critics argue the treaty is the same in all but name to the constitution.

When Our Dear Leader, Comrade Broon tells us we don't need a referendum, why does no one believe him???

Back in October, he said he wasn't having an election as he wanted time to explain his vision of Britain.

When is he going to let us share his delusions/visions???

#2 Jimmy. You got it right first time, it is delusions.

That Stalinist, totalitarian control freak has no intention of consulting the people on anything. He is a liar, a charlatan and a war criminal.

I think the majority have agreed, from the day we were told there would be no vote on this, that there was a major promise brocken. Some small promises and manifesto pledges we can shrug our shoulder at. others, such as this, as just too big to be ignored.
That was the first step G Brown made onto his self-inflicted downward spiral.

The row over the new EU Treaty meanwhile took a new turn yesterday after José Manuel Barroso, the Commission President, warned Irish voters that they will “pay” if they reject the document in a referendum next month.

Yes Southern Skye - but everybody forgets the "Legacy" from the smoothest of all liars BLAIR.His so called undertakings were also just smoke screens. He slipped quietly out the back door at a very opportune moment for him. Broon's just following the role model - cock up the job, cheat the people, get the nose in the trough, get out in time and be rewarded with a lucrative public appointment.
To Green Booger
I'm sure our Irish pals will ensure that the EU Commission are the ones that will "pay"

Dr. James Wilkie,

Gordon Brown is a man who has been in politics all his life. He has never known any life, any occupation, outside politics. I doubt if he fully understands what a constitutional crime he has committed by bludgeoning through the ratification of the Lisbon treaty. it is not just a case of reneging on a promise to the electorate. The treaty (and its predecessors since the 1975 referendum) drastically alters the relationship between the people and their government and parliament at Westminster, and the latter are in no way empowered to carry through such a unilateral shift without reference to the other side in the social contract. But maybe I am just out of date by raking up such outmoded dross as democracy, the rule of law, and the will of the people. The Lisbon treaty has in no way been legitimised without the assent of the country's supreme constitutional authority, the people, represented by a qualified and registered electorate. That will come back to haunt both Gordon Brown and the European Union. Shades of 1707!

Mr Brown says the EU Treaty is not the same as the constitution rejected by voters in France and Holland, on which a vote was promised in Labour's 2005 manifesto.
Labour's promise on an EU referendum
"We will put it - the EU Constitution - to the British people in a referendum and campaign whole-heartedly for a 'Yes' vote." - Labour Party manifesto, May 2005
"We will have a referendum on the constitution in any event - and that is a Government promise." - Tony Blair, The Sun, May 13, 2005
"Well, if it were necessary to hold a referendum, of course [we wouldn't hesitate]. I suspect that the best deal for Britain will be won, where we will get what we want, at this summit." - Gordon Brown, GMTV, June 19, 2007
"We would not agree to a deal that crossed the red lines, therefore, we did not believe a referendum would be necessary." - Later that day, Downing Street website
"The manifesto is what we put to the public. We've got to honour that manifesto." - Gordon Brown, BBC 1 Politics Show, June 24, 2007

The German MEP Jo Leinen has just suggested that Ireland would have to leave the EU if it voted 'No'. And that, I suggest, explains why Blair's Labour Cabinet lyingly described the Lisbon Treaty as being 'just a tidying up exercise', & why Gorgon Brown when he took over as PM did not dare to call a referendum on the treaty - despite Labour's 2005 election manifesto.

I suspect that both he & Blair had been told that if a British referendum unequivocally rejected the Lisbon Treaty, then there would be calls from some major EU figures, & probably some major EU countries too, for Britain to be pushed out of the EU. And neither of these two two-bit iars had the courage to call the EU's bluff. The consequence has been all Brown & Miliband's lies since then trying to, treacherously, force this statist treaty on us, rather than daring to fall out further with the EU powers-that-be in defence of their fellow Britons. All it has gained these lying cowards is, of course, the usual contempt everyone has for liars & cowards. After all: who wants to vote for LIARS? And who wants to give their taxes to LIARS? That's why Gorgon Brown & his current Cabinet of non-personalities cannot recover!

How many of the public know what the Lisbon Treaty is about? People just look blank when asked what it means. Traitors Blair and Brown would have us sell our country to foreign powers. It's all about what is in it for them and how they can line their pockets even more. They don't care a damn about the people and how much more we will suffer when The Lisbon Treaty is ratified.

Already, we are bound by many EU laws, one of them being that the great majority of the 3,00 Eastern European convicts released each year from British jails cannot be deported. EU regulations forbid it. African and the Middle East convicts given new passports by other EU countries cannot be deported, for the same reason.

Our culture is already much diluted by the thousands of economic migrants and this needs to stop. When Turkey, with its large Muslim population, joins the EU, our identity will be even more diluted.

A booklet, by Ahley Mole, Mep, is a must have. He accuses the EU and British Government of the deliberate destruction of the British identity. It is a review that deals with immigration, population change, terrorism, ruptured lives and much more. You can get a free copy from Ashley Mote but extra copies cost £1 each. www.ashleymote.co.uk
