"INTELLIGENT" CCTV cameras are being developed in the UK which will be able not only to see trouble but to hear it.
The technology allows the sounds of breaking glass, shouting, or the noise of a crowd gathering to be "learned" by software in the cameras.

The three-year project by the University of Portsmouth aims to adapt artificial-intelligence software already being developed to identify visual patterns.

Take me downtown
It's where the people rock,
Three-hundred sixty five ? cos we never stop.

Take me downtown
Cos' peoples runnin' wild.
See how we kick it in a brand new style.

Take me downtown
It's where I wanna go.
Everyone I know is going to my show-

Take me downtown
Where the city hum,
Then get your head numb to the beat of the drum cause,

I see you watching me watching you,
And now you see just where you gotta be.
I see you watching me watching you,
And now you see just where you gotta be.

Have you ever had the feeling
Someone's watching you
Listening to everything you say
Satellite surveilance
Creeping high above us all
Watching every little thing you do

'Cause they're watching you
They're watching me
Invasion of your privacy

There is no place really left to hide
Everything's in view
Can you see the writings on the wall
We live inside a fish eye lense
There's nothing they can't see
Can you feel them staring in at you (yeah)

They're watching you
They're watching me
Invasion of your privacy

They're watching you
They're watching me
Invasion of your privacy
(Come on)

There's a lens on every corner
No one hides from view
Who's behind the camera
No one has a clue

Are we getting paranoid
Or is it really true
Is the camera zooming in on cue
Take the shot, roll the film
There's nothing more to say
It does no good we'll never get away (yeah)

They're watching you
They're watching me
Invasion of your privacy

They're watching you
They're watching me
Invasion of your privacy

They're watching you
They're watching me
Invasion of your privacy

Watching you
They're watching me
They're watching you
They're watching me
They're watching you
Watching you

Got to be good, fewer opperators watching the screens but expect a serious rise in mime artists committing muggings.

And will they be listening in to people's conversations?

The police state is nearly here.

The latest development is the smelling CCTV, that can smell out trouble. Also smell out binge drinkers. So you better votch out.

CCTV camera evidence was sucessfully used in prosecutions in less than 5% of all cases in the last 10 years.

Why are we investing more money in them? Sure, as a University project this kind of thing makes sense but surely not in the real world?

Why DOES the UK have the highest rate per capita in the entire world for CCTV cameras?

Are things so bad over there that you have to be viewed and audited 24/7?

#8 TCW. No, it's just that the current New Labour Sleaze and Corruption Party are Stalinist, totalitarian control freaks, and they feel the need to have a dosier on, and to spy on the general populace; in the best KGB/Stasi traditions, of course.

I think collars with listening and tv devices would be best. If the collars hears you are misbehaving it just sets off the small explosive charge and pop goes your head. Problem solved. If too many collars gather in other than a work place or sports event pop pop pop. If you disobey the police pop. It seems so simple. This would work in Iraq too.

JUDAS PRIEST's ELECTRIC EYE

Up here in space
Im looking down on you
My lasers trace
Everything you do

You think youve private lives
Think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape
Im watching all the time

Im made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

Im elected electric spy
Im protected electric eye

Always in focus
You cant feel my stare
I zoom into you
You dont know Im there

I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove

Im made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

Im elected electric spy
Im protected electric eye

Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there
Theres nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows

Im made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

Im elected electric spy
Im protected electric eye

Protected. detective. electric eye
