THE Army has launched a major public relations campaign today, only days ahead of the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
The campaign, entitled "To the Best", drew criticism from families who lost loved ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Rose Gentle, whose son Gordon died in a bomb attack in June 2004, said the money should have been spent on providing equipment to help protect soldiers.

Mrs Gentle, who co-chairs Military Families Against the War, said: "They're trying to recruit but it won't work. You're not going to join the Army if you don't get the protection you need."

The campaign will feature television and print media advertisements encouraging people to show their support for soldiers and telling stories of Army work.

In research commissioned to coincide with the launch, pollsters found 87 per cent of those questioned supported British troops. The campaign website will give members of the public the chance to log messages of support.

While it is not the troops that make the decisions, they are currently engaged in an illegal war and should receive no support from the public as their presence in Iraq and Afganistan is putting the public at risk. I am an ex-soldier and was in a war in Angola for 8 years. Britain declared this an illegal war so the doublle standard is ridiculous. Support the troops by getting them out of Iraq and Afganistan.

My heart goes out to the families who have lost children, husbands and fathers. My total support for the Military Forces and the job they do.

I have no support for this half a#rsed strategy of policing a war zone. The army is for fighting and destroying an enemy.

The weak politicians have gone for middle ground of invasion but to win the hearts and minds. The Islamists will pick them off gradually. We can never win when we do not even know what a win would be!

Bring our troops home and leave the middle east to destroy itself. Build hostitals in the UK not Afganistan let the Saudi's do that.

I wonder how many of the MP's have sons fighting in the conflict zone.I bet it is next to zero.

The troops in our armed forces, no matter where they are in this world, deserve our unreserved respect and support. They do not choose where they go, they obey the orders given to them, and go where they are sent.
They are doing a difficult job, and doing it well, and will continue untill the job is done.

The lack of technical support, is a failing on the governments part, and they should be held to account for it, not the soldiers.
Whether or not the war is legal or not, is a matter for the said government, and not for the Army
Get behind our troops, because they are ours.
