A £4.5 BILLION private-sector plan to extend the Channel Tunnel high-speed rail link to Heathrow Airport was presented to the government yesterday.
The engineering and design company Arup said the airport could be the first stop in an extension of High Speed 1, to be completed by 2019.

The sense in extending the High Speed Rail link to Heathrow is when it is extended to serve extend it to Birmingham/Manchester/Leeds/Edinburgh/Glasgow.
By doinfg so the need for additional runways and terminals would be avoided.
This ould make even more sense in meeting the need to reduce C)2 emmissions.

It will run parallel to east coast line with spurs shooting off to Birmingham ledds manchester and Glasgow.Good idea .if it ever happens.
