PLANS to give priority to local people when allocating social housing were being spelled out today by the Government.
Councils in England will be allowed greater flexibility in the operation of waiting lists, Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced yesterday.

The move, which includes a £1.5 billion construction programme, will ease the shortage of affordable housing which has been blamed for fuelling resentment against migrants.
