PAY-AND-DISPLAY parking bays are to be introduced into South Queensferry's High Street.
The move is designed to increase the car turnover to help traders attract more custom.

Councillor Phil Wheeler, the city's transport leader, said: "Drivers have been finding it increasingly difficult to park in the town centre because of a high demand for spaces.

"Charging for parking for a set period of time may give shoppers and residents a better chance of finding somewhere to park in the town centre by ensuring that there is a regular turnover of spaces."

Ironically, it was only a matter of time before this would happen here.

Or noone will go there and the traders will have to close down. Muppets.

#2 actually the street size and shape lends itself well to being pay and display. And there are many free spaces just a short walk away. However what gets me are the current prices: 45p for 15 mins? Really great when the average person has a couple of pound coins or 50p's in their pocket meaning the Cooncil making a racket in overcharges, on every single machine!

Just to clarify here: I aint condoning this policy, but given we are talking about an amazing street of shops with only around 40 spaces, I do reckon this will improve the availability of the area by forcing the current space hoggers to position their cars for the whole day up the road at the huge free section. So this is one instance that may actually improve trade!

More Council Money Grabbing ...

They are supposed to be public servants instead they just line their own pockets these days and are blatant about it.

It is possible to have a time limit on parking (say 30mins) without charging for it. As it stands, I'd sooner pop to the Gyle and park for free.

Can't believe my above comment wouldn't be posted unless I changed the word n-i-p for the word p-o-p.

Political correctness gone haywire.
