THE maker of Lambert & Butler cigarettes said the tobacco industry has been resilient despite the slowing economy and stock market turmoil.
In a trading update, Imperial Tobacco Group, which acquired the Gauloises and Fortuna brands in January, said the company's overall performance remained "in line with expectations".

Gareth Davis, Imperial's chief executive, said: "We have strengthened our position in many markets and I am excited about our growth opportunities."

The Labour Party, Bottler Brown, Millibrain, credit crunch, oil prices, unemployment, a fag and a drink is the least of our problems.

Hey? Wots going on here, from all the previous comments, in all of the previous Scotsman threads on this issue, I ask where is David from Newmills?... Has he been demised by the 'credit crunch',,,, is that why he is not responding to the ongoing success of Lambert&Butler?.
As DaveA, say's, The Labour Party, Bottler Brown, Millibrain, credit crunch, oil prices, unemployment, a fag and a drink is the least of our problems.
I believe, we are now about to receive, images of diseased lungs, and gangrene on our packets of fags. Perhaps it might be a good idea that this government of ours,, display pictures of the deaths of all the victims of their illegal wars on our packs of cornflakes, along with their abuses of the whole financial system. Lets show the pics of road accident victims who did not wear their seatbelts, this government has totally lost the place, in reaching ordinary people or promoting any form of good health.
It is as dead as the images it is selling.

The smoking ban has done wonders for the tobacco industry. Many countries have shown an increase in smoking since the ban, whereas before the ban the smoking rate was going down.

In a trading update, Imperial Tobacco Group, which acquired the Gauloises and Fortuna brands in January, said the company's overall performance remained "in line with expectations".

I guess there will be many who will be reaching for a healthy Lambert&Butler, despite the images on the packets. They will appear to be a lot healthier than their own personal financial situations, smoker or not.
Keep up the good work, Imperial. You have ASH,(with that wizened old fool Deborah Arnott) deciding policy, now running the country along with her anti-people brigade, to thank for your ongoing success. I also must thank Ms Arnott, for encouraging my own 13 and 17 year old daughters into the smoking anachronism. I suppose when you are funded by vested interests, as ASH is, cheapskate organisations such as they are, are perfectly prepared to sell their own fanatical souls to the Devil.
A horrible bunch of 'hate promoters, social engineers, and eugenic freaks. Have you not done enough damage yet?
Alistair, Oh! he may be somebody's Darling, but I guess that most of the nation would wish to see a divorce from this whole disorganised junta, incumbant in power. I hope we can take this mad ASH concept, along with all it's shoal of bottom feeders to the ashes. This is a terrible time in our history. we have the most incompassionate, divisionalist government ever, they are simply on the northern rocks, Mr Bradford & Mr Bingly, has come to join them in their hour of need. I thank you all, Brown & lackies for all the damage you have brought to my family, my friends, and the nation. You claim to want to listen to people, that is your biggest lie. You have not only destroyed most of the fabric of our lives, taken away the enjoyments of the elderly, closed 1000's of pubs, clubs, hubs of society, persecuted the sick. This is not a goverment of decency any more, and has been completely deaf to all reason. Go now Brown, have the b

For anyone wondering where our resident anti-smoker, zealot and bigot, David from New Mills has gone. He can be found making his usual vitriolic statements in a current edition of the Halifax Courier. Clearly he is still representing his ASH masters elsewhere, obviously not wanting to comment on the Lambert and Butler success, which he and his control freak buddy's have contributed to with great effect.
