T in the Park tents dumped in landfill, not sent to needy

THOUSANDS of tents abandoned after T in the Park have been dumped in landfill, it emerged yesterday.
Despite claiming to be the world's biggest carbon- neutral festival, fewer than 100 unwanted tents were recycled after the acclaimed three-day event.

Ellen Purves, a spokeswoman for organiser DF Concerts, defended the company's decision to send the majority of the unwanted tents to landfill.

T in the Park provided an on-site deposit area for the used tents so charities such as Oxfam, Shelter and Christian Aid could dispense them to refugees and people displaced by war throughout the world.

But many campers mistakenly believed their tents would go to charity if left where they were.

Ms Purves said : "We plan to develop the scheme."

Now that DF Concerts have checked their receipts and vast amounts of money they have made the now canny be ersed.... poor show. Can I have my tent back please.

It was a good idea, but like most good ideas, it was managed by people who couldn't, organise an intimate encounter in a house of negotiable affection.

Many campers couldn't be ar5ed to tidy up after themselves and take down their tents is probably closer to the truth.

If only the tents could have been saved and the Verve chucked into a landfill site....

How about Ms purves, you store the tents and assorted other items till next year and sell them onto campers who left them behind this year, thus saving on the wee soul's lumping camping equipment to the site next year.

Oh no, my apologies, that would be seen as profiteering and DF would never get involved in such activities.

If the tent was so cheap that you would leave it behind it's hardly going to be durable for very long if used continuously by refugees.
It would be a waste of charity money to transport rubbish around the world to fall apart in weeks.
