City will not sign UN treaty
CITY leaders have declined a request from Green councillors to sign up to a United Nations climate change agreement.
Green councillor Steve Burgess asked leader Jenny Dawe to sign up to the World Mayors and Local Governments' climate protection agreement, launched at a UN conference in Bali last December.
But Councillor Dawe said: "We are committed to achieving a zero carbon economy by 2050.
"Whilst it does no harm to sign up to agreements on a global scale, these are more beneficial where the objectives and actions extend beyond our existing strategies."
