MARTIN WAUGH, 41, is a jazz singer who is performing at The Jam House on Wednesday. He lives in Musselburgh.
What is your earliest memory of Edinburgh? My earliest memories are of Rose Street, where my great granny stayed at number 108. It was opposite the first Charlie Miller hairdressing salon.

What are your memories of school? My primary school w
as Towerbank at Portobello and was full of little tearaways – myself included. Any of them reading this now will have a chuckle and agree.

Where is your favourite place in Edinburgh and why? I love Portobello Beach. I stayed on Joppa Promenade when I was a boy and can remember when we had warm summers every year. My twin brother and I had some great times there.

What are the best things about Edinburgh? There's great nightlife, super trendy pubs and clubs, great walks and a big, beautiful castle right in the middle of it.

What would you change about the city? Traffic wardens could be a bit more understanding towards us motorists. The majority will practically chase you to slap the parking ticket on your windscreen.

Describe a perfect Edinburgh day/night out. My perfect day would be a long walk along Portobello beach with my fiancée and our labradoodle Coco. We would have a light lunch at the Dalriada Hotel. A perfect night out would be spent listening to live music at The Jam House.

Which sports interest you? I'm a loyal football fan. I follow Hibs and Scotland whenever I can. I used to enjoy five-a-side and golf, but due to operations to my spine I had to give those sports up. Nowadays it's fishing for me.

What was your most embarrassing moment? I once tried to impress a new girlfriend on holiday by requesting to sing Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra. Imagine my embarrassment when Run To You by Bryan Adams was played by the host instead.

What is your greatest achievement? Giving a speech about my father's life at his funeral. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 44 and died when he was 62. I don't know how I managed it as I was devastated, but I wanted to give him a tribute he would be proud of.

Sum up Edinburgh in three words. Home sweet home.
