Northern Isles get closer to mainland
BT HAS launched a multi-million-pound project to lay a new fibre-optic submarine cable between Orkney and the Scottish mainland.
The 70km cable will run from Skaill Bay in Orkney to Dunnet Bay. It is the latest move to upgrade services to the Northern Isles. BT has already agreed with Faroese Telecom to share part of a new fibre-optic cable between the Faroe Islands, Orkney and Shetland and the mainland.
