Intercontinental phone deal off
SOUTH African mobile phone group MTN and India's Reliance Communications yesterday called off talks aimed at creating what would have been one of the world's top ten global telecoms groups.
MTN – sub-Saharan Africa's biggest mobile phone group – and Reliance, controlled by billionaire Anil Ambani, started exclusive talks on 26 May and the deadline had been extended to 21 July.
MTN said that "owing to certain legal and regulatory issues", the parties had been unable to conclude a deal.
