AN EMISSIONS detection spin-out from Strathclyde University has extended a licensing agreement for a further five years in a deal estimated to be worth £25 million.
BP Marine will use Stirling-based Cascade Technologies' monitoring system to measure shipping-industry pollution, to help it comply with European environmental legislation.
"We have been working closely in partnership with BP Marine to develop a system that will allow it to measure emissions more quickly, accurately and cost effectively," said Iain Howieson, Cascade's managing director.
Don Gregory, BP Marine's director of sustainability and fuel technology, said: "The Cascade technology design and application provides a real possibility of global adoption of online emissions monitoring on all globally trading ships."
Cascade has developed a number of other commercial uses for its patented laser technology, including bomb sensors trialled by the Home Office and the Ministry of Defence.
