THE boss of supermarket giant Sainsbury's has been awarded a 3.2 per cent pay rise for the current financial year.
The firm said in its annual report that Justin King will receive a £900,000 basic salary in 2009-10, compared with the previous year's £872,000. It said that the pay rise was "market-aligned" and consistent with the pay rises awarded to other staff and the wider management team.
Finance director Darren Shapland was awarded a 9.2 per cent pay rise to £560,000 in recognition of an expansion of the number of areas covered within his role.
The annual report also showed that executive directors were awarded a bonus ranging from between 63 per cent and 66 per cent of their salary after the company enjoyed "a strong year financially".
