Tobacco initiative lit up

A CAMPAIGN group that presses for more controls to beat tobacco smuggling is to launch its new drive at the Scottish Parliament.
The Tobacco Alliance is a coalition of 16,500 independent retailers who sell tobacco products.

The initiative is being launched at the Parliament's committee room 5 on December 11.

As I pointed out to Colin G(ee) some time in the past, savings are only real in relation to essential expenditure.
If you have no need for the nicotine drug or Cartier jewellery, the imagined "saving" is purely illusory.
For some reason Colin G. seemed to go in the huff after this relevation.
Why not enjoy the day out for it's own sake, or is that just too simple a notion?

#6 You are correct with your definition of what a saving is. However, bear in mind that a smoker does have a medically-defined dependency on nicotine therefore would recognise savings, as you say, "in relation to [what a smoker would call] essential expenditure"

Chas' advice is somewhat wasted, as I can find my way offshore for better reasons than a day trip on the ferry or an overladen Transit packed with "bargain" booze and "ciggies".
His last sentence betrays his confused thought processes, as savings on non-essential alcohol (unless he's an addict) are purely in his befuddled mind. Is he so very sloshed?

Have we lost our compassion for our fellow man? The addiction to nicotine was created partly by the tobaccoists and partly through the governments turning a blind eye to the scientific evidence of harm in order to collect taxes....allowing smuggling only changes the 'criminals' responsible for this...better that we see this as an international health concern for which we all need to take responsibility and action.....

Stef is misguided in that I do not "hate" smokers, just their selfish habit of satisfying their addiction, where and when they please, and contentedly emitting their obnoxious fumes in the process. Happily, they have become a little restricted in this respect. Nor am I pathophobic or even slightly potty.
Stef may also find me on the health and top stories forums, if he cares to broaden his sad little perspective, rather than be huddled out in the cold having his fix.

If chas takes the trouble to cast his critical eye over my various contributions, he will note that I've always been blasé about smokers' desire to cough and splutter their way to an unpleasant end, amputation of their limbs, or a lingering, painful, death. However I am more than averse to inhaling their fumes in the process.
If he ever catches me in one of Pleasantville's hostelries, he might spot whether I'm on J2O's or summat else.
Perhaps I should follow his advice and branch out to visit Adnam's, Greene King, or even Green Dragon or Green Jack country, and find him puffing away on his pipe in between sips of pints of lager.
There again, he might be away on one of his many continental jollies.

Diarrhoea, or to be quite explicit, its spelling, was what I picked up from childhood, and it's stuck ever since.

Re my #13, if Mandy is referring to Colin Gee's allegedy superb article, explaining the fate of the much vaunted judicial review, I would suggest he should best have ended it after para. 2. The rest of his feature degenerated into an attempt to blame the fate of the review on any group other than F2C, sounding very much like the football fans' cry of "we was robbed."
My#5. I was referring simply to the tobacco retailers mentioned in the Scotsman article, and their stance on tobacco smugglers. Mandy's attitude towards pharmaceutical companies and cocaine users seems irrelevant.
My#24. I can only assume Mandy is trying to make some attempt at vulgarity for cheap laughs.
The final F2C plug had no plea for funds attached. Is the collecting tin superfluous now?

Having no experience of cocaine, I cannot comment on its ease of detection, or consequent enforcement costs.
As I stated, the feature was about tobacco retailers' stance on illicit smuggling of their product. Neither it nor I made any mention of other nicotine products.
Mandy confuses belittling with earnest stating of a contrary view. If contributors feel belittled, perhaps they should hone their debating skills.
Her collection tin will attract my usual response.

34 precisely unless its crack! No Davidnewmills perhaps you might check out how much is wasted on antismoking hysteria as to why cocaine is im sure on the rise.

Hmm as for F2C there are several plans of what to do next and remember there are two other Judicial Reviews one of which plans to be taken to Europe.
