THE Scottish Green List 2009 – featured in The Scotsman over the past four days – is a roll-call of the inspirational people making Scotland a better and more sustainable place to live.
Take a good look at the names – these are the ones who deserve recognition for not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. It is individuals like these that need to be thanked, celebrated, encouraged and supported all across Scotland.

Hopeful...

Apparently, the reduction is atmospheric pollutants is one of the main causes of recent warming because less pollution allows more sunlight through and so warms the globe.

So who are being green? The greenspinners who told us all to go to smokeless fuel, catalytic converters, to recycle leaves instead of burning them and basically clear the atmosphere of cooling particulates .... or the Greens in their 4x4s flying off to conferences on the other side of the world to discuss how the lack of CFCs is causing the ozone layer to shrink which is WARMING the globe.

Hang on ... latest newsflash ... the world isn't actually warming, it is now cooling at -1.25C/century and so it appears all the greens were right.

Sorry I should never have doubted you.

Mr Curran's article begins with lie. Not a good start. Glad I don't buy The Scotsman anymore.

I wonder if he'll be saying this in 10 years when Ms Mclennan starts mobilising her army of Green activists.

If the short list of 50 names was "hard work" to obtain from an initial 300, goodness only knows what the other 250 were like - they must have been abysmal. One or two stood out but the vast majority were awful and did not at all merit the description of "green crusaders"
Just as well the earth is not warming and that man has little impact (other than through numbers of us) on climate.
Let's now have a list of sceptics who can be burned at the stake!! Or better still a list of those who have benefitted most from windmills - certainly NOT consumers of electricity.

Nope.

The last five years have been warmer than the five before them, which in turn were warmer than the five before that, which themselves were warmer than the five before.

When average temperatures go up, that's called warming.

"When average temperatures go up, that's called warming."

Yes, but you have to remember that when Isonomia starts writing, that's called nonsense.

For example, on 17/03/2008 Isonomia said, "with January [2008] being the coldest month in 14 years and February confirming the downward trend".

Isonomia thinks that you can gauge trends in global temperatures by looking at individual months, which is, of course, ridiculous, but if we humour him for a minute, let's just look at the figures and see if his present claim that the Earth "is now cooling".

From: http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/data/temperature/hadcrut3gl.txt

Jan 2008 0.030C (above average for 1961-1990)
Feb 2008 0.194C
Jan 2009 0.375C
Feb 2009 0.356C

No. If we use the idiotic methods of Isonomia, we would have to conclude that the Earth has warmed by about 0.25C in the last year, at a time that the sun is said to be at its lowest point for decades.

Of course, no-one should conclude anything - either warming or cooling - from cherry-picked monthly temperatures. The one thing to remember is that the average warming trend for the last several decades is about 018C per decade, but upon that trend is imposed a lot of annual variation.

Has anything happened in recent years to show that that long-term warming trend has changed significantly? NO! As always, Isonomia is talking nonsense.
